I'm completely new to drones and looking to buy my first DJI model. I want something that's easy to learn on but still takes decent photos/videos. My budget is around $300-800. I've been looking at the Mini series but not sure which version. What would you recommend for someone who's never flown before? Are there any models I should avoid as a beginner? Any tips on features that are must-haves vs nice-to-haves? Thanks in advance!
For beginners in 2025, I'd actually recommend looking at the DJI Neo - it's only $200 and great for beginners as you can simply place it in your hand and press a button, then it'll fly off and capture cool programmed shots like "dronies." It can capture all your footage at 4K 30p, with surprisingly good quality. The autonomous features make it super beginner-friendly - you literally don't even need a controller to start flying!
> What would you recommend for someone who's never flown before? Are there any models I should avoid as a beginner? Honestly I’m still pretty new to this too and I was SO scared of crashing my first week but I found that getting something with obstacle avoidance is the biggest thing for performance and safety. If you can stretch your budget or find a deal on the DJI Mini 3 Pro it's basically a lifesaver because it has sensors that stop you from hitting stuff. I looked at some testing videos and it handles wind surprisingly well for a small drone but I still get nervous if it’s even a little gusty out. Tbh you should check out the DJI official refurbished store because you can get a way better model for like way less money and they still give you a warranty (which is a huge relief). Is the DJI Care Refresh worth it even on the cheaper models? I’m still trying to figure out if I need it but for a first-timer it seems like a safe bet so you don't lose your whole investment on day one!
Just started looking into drones and honestly overwhelmed by all the options! The DJI Mini 4K is widely considered the best all-around beginner drone thanks to its GPS stability, long flight time, ease of use, and no need for FAA registration. Weighing just under 249g, it bypasses registration requirements in many countries, making it a plug-and-play dream. Perfect if you want something simple to get started with!
I'm waiting for DJI Mini 5 Pro.
