So I finally pulled the trigger on a Sigma fp L after staring at it for like a year because I wanted that weirdly beautiful color science and the tiny form factor. Ive been shooting on the Sony A7 series for years so I thought I knew what I was getting into but man this thing is basically just a sensor in a box lol. Its so tiny which is cool but also kind of a nightmare to hold for more than five minutes without some kind of grip or cage. Im taking it out to Seattle for a documentary project in three weeks and Im starting to realize the modular aspect means I actually have to buy everything separately just to make it functional for a full day of shooting. I already know I need a cage probably from SmallRig or Tilta to keep it from slipping out of my hands and I heard the battery life is pretty tragic so Im looking at dummy batteries or maybe just a huge stack of spares. Since I want to shoot 12-bit CinemaDNG to an external SSD what are the actual must-haves that dont make the camera feel like a giant heavy brick? I have about 500 or 600 bucks left in the gear budget for this month. What are the top essential accessories you guys use to make this thing actually usable in the field?

What are the must-have accessories for a Lumix S5II setup that I actually need to buy right now? I finally ditched my old Canon gear after nearly a decade because I couldnt pass up that new phase detect AF and the open gate recording is gonna save me so much time with my TikTok and IG clients. I’m based in Seattle and mostly do rainy outdoor lifestyle shoots so weather sealing is a big deal for me. I’ve got about 800 bucks left in my budget for the month and I need to be ready for a big wedding shoot in ten days so I'm feeling a bit of a time crunch.

I am trying to figure out if I need to go all out on V90 cards or if I can get away with V60 for 4k 10-bit stuff since the bitrates on the S5II aren't as crazy high as the GH6. Also does this thing eat batteries? My old R6 was okay but I’m worried about the fan and the IBIS draining it while I’m out in the woods. Thinking about a SmallRig cage too but maybe that’s overkill if I’m trying to stay light? Is there a specific top handle that works best with the XLR adapter because I’m definitely picking that up for better audio. Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything obvious before I hit the checkout button...

Honestly im about to lose my mind with my current setup. Ive been trying to shoot these high-end jewelry pieces for a client here in Seattle and the focus breathing on my adapted Canon 100mm is just killing me, it keeps hunting and by the time I get the shot the lighting has shifted or Ive just lost my flow completely. I've got a huge deadline coming up next Thursday and I cannot show up with these soft-edged results again because the client is super picky about the texture on the gold bands. Im using a Lumix S5II and I just need something native that actually communicates with the body properly without all this glitchy behavior. Its so stressful when youre charging professional rates but your gear feels like its fighting you every step of the way.

I have about 1400 dollars saved up for a new lens but I dont want to waste it on something that isnt tack sharp from edge to edge. I was looking at the Sigma 105mm but then I heard mixed things about the autofocus speed and the Panasonic 100mm is so new I dont know if it holds up for high-end studio work. Does anyone actually have experience with the absolute best L-mount macro lens for professional product stuff that wont let me down in a pinch? I really need to get this sorted before I lose this contract...

So I finally bit the bullet and grabbed a Lumix S5II because I couldnt pass up the deal at my local shop here in Chicago but now im staring at all my old Canon EF glass and feeling kinda stuck. I really dont want to spend a fortune on new L-mount lenses right away since I already spent my whole budget on the body.

Im looking at three main options right now:

Sigma MC-21 (seems like the gold standard?)

Fotodiox Pro EF to L (cheaper but heard mixed things)

Metabones Smart Adapter (expensive but maybe better?)

Heres the thing, I have a wedding gig coming up in three weeks—mostly shooting an outdoor ceremony—so I need something that wont hunt for focus every five seconds or just die on me in the heat. I mostly do stills but I might need to grab some quick video clips too. My budget is pretty tight, trying to stay under $200 if possible though I can stretch it if the MC-21 or Metabones is truly that much better. Ive heard the MC-21 doesnt support continuous AF in video though which sounds like a total dealbreaker? Or maybe the firmware fixed that? Its all so confusing looking at these spec sheets online. Is there a better one I missed or should I just suck it up and get the Sigma one and hope for the best...

So I finally bit the bullet and picked up a Sigma fp for a documentary project I'm shooting around Seattle next month and now I'm stuck in the adapter rabbit hole. I've got a bunch of Canon EF glass—mostly the 24-70mm and a 50mm prime—that I really want to use without buying all new L-mount lenses because honestly I'm broke after buying the camera body lol.

I did some digging and obviously the Sigma MC-21 seems like the official choice but I've read some weird stuff online about it not supporting continuous autofocus or being super slow with older Canon lenses which is a huge deal for me since I'm mostly shooting handheld and following people around. Then I saw the Metabones Smart Adapter but that thing is like double the price and I cant really tell if the performance boost is actually worth the extra cash or if its just hype.

Here is what I am looking for:

Budget: Trying to stay under $250 or $300 if possible

Use case: Documentary work, lots of movement, mostly video

Must have: Decent autofocus speed and solid build quality (no wiggling)

Timeline: Need to have this figured out by the end of the month

Is the MC-21 actually as bad for video AF as people say or am I overthinking it? Or is there some other brand I am totally missing like Commlite or something...
