Jumping in here because I've spent way too many hours staring at these charts over the years. I remember hunting for my first high-end machine and feeling like I needed a degree just to read the graph... it's a lot. My biggest piece of advice is to not get distracted by every single line on Keepa. Honestly, just turn off everything except the Amazon price and the Used price to clear the clutter. A few warnings from my experience:

Ignore the 'List Price' because it's almost always inflated to make the 'sale' look better.

Keep an eye on the Warehouse deals specifically for heavy appliances; sometimes a 'Used

Like New' machine just has a dented box and saves you 100 bucks.

Don't wait for the absolute bottom if you only have three weeks. If it hits 460, just grab it. I actually missed out on a killer deal once because I was holding out for an extra five dollars and the stock vanished. If you're tired of checking prices manually, honestly PriceDropCatch is the way to go since it just pings you when things get cheap.

Im usually pretty satisfied with the S5II performance, but video AF with an adapter is such a different beast. Safety is everything when you cant redo a wedding shot. Honestly, even when things seem to work well in a test room, the chaos of a ceremony can make an adapter struggle to keep up. Just to get a better idea of what youre dealing with:

What kind of Canon glass are we talking about here, is it the older USM stuff or the newer STM lenses?

Are you planning on shooting the ceremony wide open or will you have some wiggle room with your f-stop? Some lenses just play nicer than others and Id hate for you to get stuck with something that jitters right when the rings come out.

In my experience, even the decent adapters like the Viltrox EF-L Pro Lens Mount Adapter can be a bit jittery for video if the lens is older. Since youre looking at budget and practicality:

Honestly, just rent native glass for the weekend. Check LensRentals or a local shop. Its like 50 bucks and saves you the headache of missed focus during the vows.

If you really want an adapter, look for the Metabones Canon EF to L-Mount T Smart Adapter. Its pricier but I've tried many and it feels the most solid.

Always check the firmware compatibility lists on the manufacturer sites before buying. I used Camel for a while but honestly, I had issues with it missing those rapid lightning deals which is basically how you get those big kitchen appliance discounts. Unfortunately, it just isnt as good as expected when it comes to the nitty-gritty technical data. Here is why I switched:

Keepa tracks the Buy Box. Even if you arent a reseller, the Buy Box is usually what you are actually paying.

Camel sometimes has a lag in their data refreshes, which is super annoying if a deal only lasts an hour.

Third-party tracking on Keepa is way more reliable for these machines. If youre looking for a machine, honestly just go with a Breville. You cant really go wrong with their stuff for a first setup. I usually just throw things into PriceDropCatch and wait for the price drop alert before I actually pull the trigger on a purchase.

I love it when people dive into wedding photography for the first time! It is such a fantastic and high-energy experience. When I did my first outdoor wedding, I actually went with a used professional body instead of a new entry-level one because I needed something that could survive a bit of dust and heat. Reliability is seriously the most important factor when you're the one capturing memories that cant be repeated. To help narrow down the best choice for you, I have a couple of specific questions:

Will you be doing any video of the ceremony or is this strictly for stills?

Are you planning on carrying a backup camera or just relying on the one? Honestly, I've found that having a second battery and a high-quality memory card is just as vital as the camera itself. I once had a cheap battery die right before the first dance and it was a total scramble... definitely dont want that happening to you!

TL;DR: Keepa is the superior choice for saving money! It tracks Warehouse Deals and shipping costs that others miss. Go with Keepa because the data granularity is incredible! If you are on a strict 500 dollar budget, you need to see the New versus Used price trends separately. I love how Keepa logs the Buy Box history because thats usually the price you actually pay. Camel is okay for a quick glance, but it often misses those lightning deals and 3rd party shifts that could save you 50 bucks. Learning the interface is actually fun once you see how much money you can save with those specific data points! The way it tracks shipping costs is a total game changer for staying under budget.
my logic was that simpler is better for a total newbie like me but then i got worried that the simpler one might miss the actual lowest price points or something. i looked at the keepa extension and it just looks so cluttered with all those different colored lines and i dont even know what half of them mean like the buy box stuff is that even relevant for someone just buying one thing? i just need to know when the price hits like 450 or lower.

then i read that camel doesnt even track certain categories or third party stuff as well as keepa does and now im just confused if that even matters for a kitchen appliance. is keepa actually worth learning for a one-time purchase or is that just for people who do reselling for a living... just want to make sure i dont miss a genuine price drop because i picked the wrong tool.

Doing a wedding with a brand new setup you havent tested is a bold move lol. Honestly, I'd be real cautious with the Sigma MC-21 Mount Converter EF-L for video. Even though the S5II has phase detect, that adapter still acts wonky sometimes in continuous mode depending on the lens. I would suggest avoiding the Fotodiox Pro Fusion Adapter EF to L-Mount for high-stakes stuff like this because the firmware can be glitchy and might drop connection. Tbh, you might want to consider just renting a native lens like the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro OIS for the weekend. Adapted glass is fine for b-roll, but for the ceremony? I wouldnt trust it to track a walking bride perfectly. If you're stuck with EF, the Sigma is basically the standard, but maybe prepare to pull focus manually... just in case.
