Finally switching to L-mount for my portrait business in Seattle. I have a $1500 budget and need something for a shoot next week. Ive looked at:

  • 85mm 1.4 DG DN
  • 105mm 1.4 Art

The 85mm is lighter but reviews say it has weird distortion. Which is better for pro work?

Honestly, I've tried many Sigma lenses over the years and been shooting L-mount since it dropped. For professional work where you're moving around Seattle, you gotta consider the weight.

  • Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art for L-Mount is the smarter buy imo. The distortion people talk about is basically a non-issue because modern profiles in Lightroom or your camera fix it instantly. It's sharp as hell and doesnt break your wrist during long shoots.
  • Sigma 105mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for L-Mount is the Bokeh Master for a reason. The transition from sharp to blur is gorgeous but man... it is heavy. Carrying that all day is a total workout and might be overkill for your first lens in the system. In my experience, the 85mm is way more practical for a busy business. It fits your budget perfectly and leaves room for extra batteries. If you need more tips on the L-mount transition just let me know.
