I'm looking to upgrade from smartphone recording and want to get into serious video production. My budget is around $1,200 and I need something that shoots quality 4K, has good autofocus for interviews, and decent low-light performance. I'll mainly be doing YouTube content, some event coverage, and maybe short films down the road. Should I go with Canon, Nikon, or consider mirrorless instead? Any specific models you'd recommend? Also wondering about lens recommendations for getting started.

For video work, you really can't go wrong with the Canon 5D Mark IV or the Nikon D850. Both offer excellent 4K recording, great low-light performance, and solid autofocus tracking. The 5D Mark IV has that beautiful Canon color science that's perfect for skin tones, while the D850 gives you incredible dynamic range.
What's your budget and what type of videos are you planning to shoot? Wedding work? YouTube content? That'll help narrow down the best option for your needs.

Been shooting video professionally for 8 years. My take: Canon 90D hits the sweet spot for most people. Great 1080p video, excellent dual-pixel autofocus (seriously game-changing for solo work), and the articulating screen is a lifesaver. Plus Canon lenses are everywhere and affordable. Skip 4K unless you really need it - 1080p done well looks better than mediocre 4K anyway.
