I recently upgraded to a Canon Cinema EOS C70 and I'm in the market for a reliable gimbal to complement this incredible camera. I'm looking for something that can handle the C70's weight and form factor while providing smooth, cinematic movements. What are your experiences with gimbals for the C70?

Saw this earlier but wanted to weigh in. @Reply #5 - good point! I remember the days of struggling with those humming motors... it's why I'm so paranoid about weight limits and gear safety now. The C70 is a beast, and its wide shape makes it a pain to balance properly on standard plates. In my experience, if you dont get the center of gravity perfect, you're just asking for a motor failure or a drop mid-shoot.

  • Ditch the stock plate and get something wider like the SmallRig Dedicated Baseplate for Canon EOS C70
  • If you're running a heavy lens, grab some SmallRig 100g Counterweight sets for the side axis
  • Check your screws every hour, seriously DIY tip: I've actually used some lead tape on the right side of the gimbal arm once just to get it perfectly level when I was in a pinch. It saved the motors from overheating. Tbh dont risk your C70 by forcing the DJI RS 4 Pro to do all the heavy lifting through the app calibration alone.

DJI RS 4 or RS 4 Pro are both great for C70.

^ This. Also, mentioning Zhiyun takes me back to a gig I did a few years ago. Honestly, the brand landscape used to be so different before the current tech became the standard.

  • I remember lugging an old Crane setup through a muddy forest for a documentary gig.
  • The motors kept humming cuz the calibration was slightly off, and I didnt have the right hex key to fix it on the fly.
  • My second shooter actually swore off that brand entirely after a locking pin snapped during a gear swap... man, what a nightmare that day turned into.
  • Zhiyun used to feel like a science project while DJI was trying to be the Apple of stabilizers, but both had their weird quirks back then. Its kinda funny looking back at how we used to struggle with that stuff compared to what people expect now... just a whole different world of troubleshooting back then.

I think DJI RS 4 Pro is the best choice.
