So I finally picked up a Z6ii last week and I'm itching to get my first real prime lens. I've been doing a lot of street photography around Chicago lately, mostly at night, so I definitely need something fast.
I keep seeing everyone rave about the 50mm f/1.8 S because it's supposedly perfect but then I read some reviews saying it's almost too clinical and lacks soul. Then there's the 35mm but I'm worried it wont be tight enough for portraits. My budget is capped at around $900 for now. Should I just stick with the S-line or is there some third party stuff like viltrox thats actually worth it for the Z mount?
Ive been shooting for a long time and the Nikon NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S is honestly the most satisfied I’ve ever been with a lens. I took it out for some night shots recently and the way it handles glare from street lamps is just impressive. Dont worry about that clinical talk, the bokeh is super smooth and it works well for portraits too. It never lets me down.
