Ive been rocking my old GH4 since 2016 and I thought I could make it last forever but the autofocus is just killing me lately. I was trying to film some b-roll for a travel vlog in Chicago last week and half the shots were hunting like crazy it was so frustrating. Its definitely time to upgrade to something with 10-bit internal and decent tracking. I got a $1500 budget and want to stay mirrorless but I might switch systems if the body is good enough. Is the Sony A6700 still the best bet for 4K in 2024 or should I be looking at the Fuji X-S20 instead?

I'd lean toward the Sony Alpha a6700 26MP 4K120p for that reliable tracking you need, but be careful with overheating if you're shooting long vlogs in the sun. Tbh the Fujifilm X-S20 26.1MP 6K Video is great but I found the AF still struggles compared to Sony in busy crowds. Just make sure to factor in the cost of new glass before jumping ship...

Adding my two cents here because I struggled with my old camera hunting for focus too, it's a real pain. Before I suggest anything specific tho, I gotta ask... is that $1500 just for the body or do you need a lens with it? It makes a big difference for your budget. If you want to save some cash for a good lens, the Canon EOS R7 32.5MP 4K60p is a decent option and the tracking is very reliable for the price point. Also, have you looked at the Panasonic LUMIX S5II 24.2MP 6K Video lately? It finally has the phase detect autofocus like Sony does and it might feel more familiar coming from your GH4. It's usually right at your budget limit if you catch a sale. Let me know about the lenses and I can help more!

Since you're already used to Panasonic, the Panasonic LUMIX S5II 24.2MP 6K30p is the smarter move imo. It finally uses phase hybrid AF, so that hunting issue is basically gone. Just make sure to budget for full-frame lenses tho, because those get expensive really quick compared to what you're used to with the GH4.
