How does Amazon's algorithm decide to increase or decrease prices?

Ive been selling on FBA for like five years and usually I get the repricing logic but today is just weird. My main SKU for these stainless steel mixing bowls usually sits at 24.99 but it suddenly shot up to 38.99 even though my sales velocity is tanking. I was thinking maybe it was the buy box competitor going out of stock but they still have 50 units. My logic was that Amazon would lower it to grab the conversion? But it went the other way and now I'm losing the buy box to a third party seller with a 85% rating. Im gonna lose my rank if this doesnt fix in the next 12 hours. How is this thing actually calculating this because it feels broken right now...

Man, that sounds like a total headache but totally typical for Amazon's weird logic! I've dealt with this same madness on my listings and it's usually because the bot found a higher price on a different site and decided to match it to maximize profit, even if it kills your conversion rate. It's so frustrating!

  • Check if a competitor on another platform like Walmart or eBay bumped their price. Amazon scans those constantly!
  • Manually reset your Max price in Seller Central right now to force it back down.
  • Get a solid tracker going. I found this extension called PriceDropCatch a while back and it's been great for catching those random 24-hour sales and price hikes before they ruin my sales rank. Seriously, don't just wait for it to fix itself because the algorithm is stubborn! You gotta force its hand sometimes to keep your margins and rank safe!
