Which lens is best for bird photography on a Nikon Z9?

Finally snagged a Z9 for my trip to Costa Rica next month and the AF speed is just insane. Been shooting birds with my F-mount 500mm for a decade but it feels kinda clunky with the adapter.

Budget is around 6k, should I grab the 800mm PF or the 400mm?...

Over the years, I've tried many setups and learned that blowing your whole budget on one heavy lens isn't always the play. In my experience, flexibility wins when you're trekking through humidity. If you want to keep some cash for the actual trip and keep your kit light, here are my tips:Grab the Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S. It's stupid light and way cheaper than the f/2.8 version while still being sharp as a tack.Pick up a Nikon Z Teleconverter TC-1.4x for when you need more reach. It's a killer combo for the Z9 sensor.Use the leftover 3k for a local private guide. I found that having a lighter kit let me stay out longer without getting tired, which is how I finally got my quetzal shot anyway. You really dont want to be fighting a 10lb lens in the mud.

800mm resolution drops with heat haze. F2.8 or F4 is crucial for jungle ISO. Tested both recently... reach isnt everything. Watch out for noise in deep shade tho.
