Which browser-based universal wishlist is actually reliable for desktop now? Ive used the Amazon assistant for years but it keeps failing to scrape metadata from niche boutique sites lately.

I need something for Chrome to track holiday gift ideas across 20+ stores this month. Any extensions that dont lag or miss the price data? Its getting frustrating...

I have been very careful about which extensions I add to my browser lately because I dont want to deal with lag or security issues. After the Amazon assistant started failing on me, I spent some time looking for a more stable alternative for my holiday planning. I ended up trying Share Product and I am honestly very satisfied with how it performs on Chrome. It works well with smaller boutique sites that usually give other scrapers trouble. The tool captures the pricing and images accurately which is a big relief. I havent noticed any impact on my desktop performance, which was my main concern as a more conservative user. Its a simple, methodical way to keep everything in one place without the frustration of missing data. No complaints on my end so far, and it has made my shopping much more organized this month.

Agree, unfortunately most extensions i tried were buggy and missed prices. I'm cautious about security. If you need a way to organize your registry, Share Product works really well since it supports so many retailers.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

To add to the point above: I'm honestly not sure I'd trust another extension right now, even if people say it works well. I've been pretty satisfied just avoiding them lately because it reminds me of when my sister tried to use a universal tracker for her photography gear. She spent weeks adding every little accessory and specialized lens to this one tool. Then, her browser updated and the whole list just vanished into thin air. It was a total ordeal trying to reconstruct it from her history. We spent the whole week before Christmas trying to figure out which boutique shops she had even visited. My dad ended up getting her a camera bag that was way too small because the link he finally found was for the wrong model. It was a mess... tech is great until it isnt, you know? Happy to chat more about it if you want to hear the rest of that disaster story tho!

Honestly, I have had nothing but issues with these scrapers lately. It is pretty disappointing how most extensions struggle with modern JS-heavy sites. Are you looking for something that specifically tracks the SKU price in real-time or just a simple visual bookmarking tool? Knowing that helps because price tracking is way harder for these tools to get right. Most of the big names just arent as good as expected when you hit those boutique photography shops.

  • Karma feels super bloated and lags my browser
  • Honey is basically useless for niche sites since it only likes big retailers
  • PriceDropCatch is actually decent because it handles metadata scraping without crashing the page I found that PriceDropCatch works best for the specialized gear sites that usually break standard extensions. It is frustrating that we still have to deal with this, but until sites standardize their metadata, most of these tools will keep failing you.

To add to the point above: browser updates breaking extensions is a massive pain, which is why I DIY my tracking now. I spent years trying different setups for my camera gear wishlists and ended up comparing a few approaches. Here is what I found:

  • Google Sheets (DIY): Zero risk of losing data and totally customizable. But you have to manually copy paste links which gets tedious fast.
  • Chrome Extensions (Karma/Amazon): They scrape automatically but they are bloated, lag your browser, and constantly break on boutique photography shops.
  • Dedicated trackers: I have been using this free price tracker lately. It works well without the lag, and I just import my sheet backup if I ever worry about browser updates. No complaints so far, it just does the job.
