so i just got a sony a6000 for my trip next week and i want to take those huge landscape photos but the lens it came with is way too zoomed in i think. i have literally no idea what im doing and all these numbers like 12mm or 20mm are so confusing and i dont want to buy the wrong thing. i only have about 250 dollars left so i need something really cheap but good enough for a total beginner. what are some good budget wide angle lenses for a sony e-mount? i need to buy something tonight so it gets here in time...

In my experience, the Sony E 16mm f/2.8 SEL16F28 is a total lifesaver for travel. Its tiny and way wider than the kit lens you're struggling with. If you want even wider on a budget, check out the Meike 12mm f/2.8 Wide Angle Lens for Sony E. Its manual focus but for landscapes you just set it to infinity and you're basically good. Dont sweat the technical stuff yet, just go shoot!

I have been very satisfied with a few specific lenses that offer consistent reliability without costing a fortune. Since you are confused by the numbers, basically remember that a smaller number like 12mm captures way more of the scenery than a 20mm or 50mm would. For landscapes on the a6000, these two options are quite safe and effective:

  • Samyang 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Manual Focus Lens
  • Rokinon 12mm f/2.0 NCS CS Ultra Wide Angle Lens Both of these work well because they are sharp and very affordable. Honestly, even tho they are manual focus, for landscape shots you just set the focus ring near the infinity symbol and everything will look great. I havent had any complaints using them for years. You can usually find them for under 250 dollars if you check the main retailers tonight... it's a solid investment that wont let you down.

Re: "In my experience, the Sony E 16mm f/2.8..." - yeah i've been super happy with that one. No complaints. tbh just wondering tho, are u shooting mostly during the day or at night?

  • build quality matters
  • check for loose mounts IIRC some cheaper brands have glass that rattles, which makes me nervous for travel... u want something reliable so it dont break on u!

This is exactly what I needed to hear. Youre a lifesaver honestly.
