I have been staring at my screen for like three hours trying to figure out if I should just pull the trigger now or wait for Prime Day 2026 which feels forever away but also right around the corner. Im planning this massive trip to Palawan in the Philippines for my sisters wedding in August and I really need a solid underwater setup for snorkeling but my budget is strictly under 350 because the flights were a total nightmare.

So I was thinking... maybe the Action 5 Pro will finally hit a real discount by then? Or maybe even the Action 6 if its out by then? I looked up some price history on camelcamelcamel and it looks like the Action 4 had a decent cut last year but then I read this random blog saying DJI usually only discounts the older standard bundles and keeps the adventure combo at full price during the actual Prime event which literally makes no sense to me.

My logic was that by July 2026 the current tech would be considered old enough for a massive price dump but honestly with how prices are going I am worried the sale price will just be what the normal price is today. Its so frustrating because I dont want to buy it in June and then see it for 100 dollars less two weeks later but I also dont want to wait until the last minute and have shipping delays right before my flight.

Some people say the Prime Day deals are just bait and you can get better prices at B&H or Adorama in the spring if you catch a flash sale but then others swear the Amazon bundles are the only way to go. I am just stuck in this loop of checking the same five tabs every day and its driving me crazy. Is it even worth the stress for a potential 40 dollar savings or am I just overthinking this whole thing...

Like someone mentioned, the stress of waiting for Prime Day usually isnt worth the few bucks you save when you have a trip on the line. I have been really satisfied with my current underwater setup and honestly, if you want to stay under that 350 limit by 2026, you might find a better deal on the GoPro HERO12 Black Waterproof Action Camera or even the Insta360 Ace Pro 8K Action Camera. The thing about snorkeling in Palawan is the light hitting the reef. You really want a sensor that can handle high dynamic range without crushing the shadows. I am happy with how the GoPro HERO11 Black 5.3K Video Camera performs in shallow water because the 10-bit color depth lets you color grade the blues much better than older 8-bit sensors. It works well without a housing down to 33 feet, but for a wedding trip, I would grab a GoPro Protective Housing for HERO12/11 anyway just to be safe from salt spray. The technical side of these sales is that the older flagship models usually see the biggest price drops in the spring during flash sales, not just July. If you see a bundle with extra batteries and a mount for under 300, just grab it. Shipping delays are a nightmare and testing your gear before the flight is basically mandatory imo. No complaints with my gear after I figured out the manual white balance for tropical water... definitely worth getting it early so you can practice your shots.

Re: "Like someone mentioned, the stress of waiting for..." i totally get that loop. i spent weeks tracking the Insta360 Ace Pro 8K Action Camera thinking id save big for my last dive, but the discount was basically pennies... such a letdown when you have a trip planned. If you're trying to keep the whole setup under 350, you have to watch out for the hidden costs that sneak up on you:

  • You absolutely need high-speed cards like the SanDisk Extreme Pro 256GB microSDXC V30 or your 4K footage will just stutter and fail.
  • Tropical humidity in Palawan kills battery life, so spares are non-negotiable and they arent cheap.
  • Honestly, those Prime deals are usually just for clearing out warehouse dust. I was pretty disappointed with the savings last year. You might be better off grabbing a refurb GoPro HERO11 Black 5.3K Mini and putting the extra cash toward a decent floating grip or a diving mask... waiting until the last minute usually just ends in stress.

Honestly, I've tracked DJI pricing cycles for years and you're definitely overthinking the Prime Day hype. It's usually just a clearance event for older stock. By July 2026, the DJI Osmo Action 6 4K Camera will likely be the flagship, meaning the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro 4K Action Camera Standard Combo should naturally sit around $280-$300 anyway.

  • In my experience, flash sales at B&H in the spring often beat Amazon's big events by a solid margin.
  • The bait deals usually apply to the DJI Osmo Action 4 4K Camera Adventure Combo because they want to move old battery stock.
  • Waiting until two weeks before a trip to Palawan is risky business... I've seen too many shipping delays ruin gear prep. If you see the DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro hit $330 in May, just grab it. The $30 potential savings isnt worth the pre-trip anxiety, ngl.
