So my old Lumix G7 is basically held together by tape at this point after taking it on like five different hiking trips through the PNW and the sensor is starting to show some weird spots. With Prime Day coming up next month I really want to finally upgrade to something serious for video but I am totally torn on which way to go. I have about 1500 saved up and I am looking at either the GH7 since I already have some mft glass or just making the jump to full frame with the S5II.
The S5II seems like the smarter move for low light stuff but man the lenses are so pricey and heavy compared to what I am used to. Plus I dont know if Panasonic usually does deep discounts on the newer bodies during Prime Day or if they just dump the old stock like the original S5. I need something that can handle a bit of rain and has good autofocus because I am tired of pulling focus manually while trying to walk. If the GH7 goes on sale for under 1400 I might just grab it and stay in the ecosystem but then I see the S5II bundles and I start second guessing everything.
Has anyone tracked the Prime Day trends for Panasonic over the last couple years? Do you think the S5II will actually hit a record low or should I just stick with the mft stuff and go for the GH7...
> I am looking at either the GH7 since I already have some mft glass or just making the jump to full frame with the S5II. Honestly, dont expect some massive miracle for the Panasonic LUMIX GH7 4K Mirrorless Camera on Prime Day. It is still way too new for deep cuts and Panasonic usually just dumps old stock like the original S5 during sales. Staying with MFT for video is kinda disappointing when you consider the high noise floor in low light, especially if you are shooting under heavy PNW tree cover. I had issues with the G7 sensor too, and moving to the GH7 is only a marginal gain for that kind of cash. The Panasonic LUMIX S5II Full Frame Mirrorless Camera is the smarter technical choice for that phase hybrid AF alone, but man, those L-mount lenses are heavy. Its not as good as it looks on paper once you factor in the weight for hiking. Honestly, even if the Panasonic LUMIX S5II with 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 Lens Kit hits 1500, you are gonna hate the slow lens speed. Its a lose-lose situation right now tbh.
