I finally bit the bullet and got the Q3 after saving for like a year but honestly the grip is a little slippery and I'm terrified of scratching the bottom plate already. I've been looking at cases for three days straight and I'm just getting more annoyed the more I look. I saw the Oberwerth ones and yeah they look nice but 300 bucks for a piece of leather? That feels like such a ripper when I already spent six grand on the camera itself. Then I looked at the Lim's cases because everyone says they're the gold standard for fit but I saw a couple comments on a dpreview thread saying the cutouts for the new tilt screen are a bit tight and might actually scratch the edges of the display if you aren't careful which is literally the opposite of what I want a case to do. I need something for a trip to Tokyo I have coming up in like 12 days so I need to order something fast. I just want something that feels premium, lets me swap the battery without taking the whole thing off, and doesn't make the camera feel like a brick in my hand. Does anyone actually have one they love that isn't just a brand name markup? What are you guys using that actually fits the Q3 screen properly?
TL;DR: The Lim's Design Leather Camera Half Case for Leica Q3 is your best option for Tokyo. I would suggest being careful with the installation. Make sure to align the base screw perfectly so the leather doesnt crowd the tilt screen mechanism. Honestly, I've found it fits better than cases twice the price. The aluminum base adds protection without being a brick. Just check that clearance before your flight and you'll be fine.
