So I just got a used Olympus E-M10 for a trip to Japan next month and I really want to try using some old Canon FD lenses I found at a garage sale. But I am completely lost with these adapter things.

I saw some on Amazon for like 15 bucks and then others that are way over a hundred. My logic was that its just a metal tube so the cheap one should be fine? But then I got worried it might ruin my camera mount or make the photos look awful. My budget is super tight, hopefully under 30 dollars. What should I get...

Ive been shooting Micro Four Thirds for a decade and honestly, I have wasted way too much money on these metal tubes. I started with those ultra-cheap ones you saw on Amazon. Unfortunately, the first Fotasy FD to Micro 4/3 Lens Mount Adapter I bought was a total disaster. The internal reflections were so bad that my photos looked like they had a fog over them, and it felt like it was grinding my mount. Not as good as expected at all. If you are on a budget, skip the absolute bottom-tier stuff. Here is what I have used:

Regarding what #2 said about budget adapters being disappointing, I totally agree! Its such a buzzkill when you get home and realize your shots are ruined by light leaks. Since youre on a tight budget for your trip, you can definitely find gems that work perfectly without spending a fortune.

  • Haoge Manual Lens Mount Adapter for Canon FD to M4/3 is my favorite for budget builds. The quality is fantastic and it feels way more expensive than it actually is!
  • Beschoi Canon FD to Micro Four Thirds Lens Adapter is another solid choice. Its super sturdy and I havent had any issues with it being gritty or loose. Pro tip for Japan: check out the junk bins at the camera shops in Shinjuku or Akihabara! Youll find amazing vintage glass for pennies. Just bring your adapter so you can test them on the spot! Have a blast, Japan is amazing for photography!

Saw this earlier but just now responding. Unfortunately, most budget adapters are kinda disappointing. I had major light leak issues with generic $10 tubes... totally ruined my shots.
