Hey! Looking for the best wedding lens for my Nikon Z6. So many options! Mostly indoor shooting. Budget is around $1500. What's your top recommendation for a versatile prime or zoom?

Late to the party but thought Id chime in. @Reply #6 - good point! Quick question for you tho... are you planning to do the whole day with just one lens, or are you okay swapping between two? It makes a huge difference for indoor work. If you want to stay under $1500 and actually have a kit that grows with you, I might skip the heavy zooms for now. Here is why I think a two-prime setup is a decent way to go:

  • Nikon NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S: This is basically a workhorse for receptions and candid shots. Its wide enough for groups but doesnt distort people too much. The autofocus is snappy on the Z6 too.
  • Nikon NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S: You really need something for those tight ceremony shots and portraits. This lens is incredibly sharp and gives you that professional look clients expect. Going with primes like these is a smart long-term move because they are way lighter than the big f/2.8 zooms. Your back will definitely thank you after a 12-hour wedding day. Plus that extra stop of light at f/1.8 is a total lifesaver in dark venues. What kind of lighting do you usually deal with in these indoor spots?

I shot a wedding last year with the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.8 S. Honestly? A bit underwhelming indoors, unfortunately. Maybe consider the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art; I've heard great things, though it's a DSLR lens with an adapter.

Careful with fast zooms indoors. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art is sharper, and you'll save big money vs. constant f/2.8 zooms. I'd suggest renting a 24-70mm f/2.8 first to see if you *really* need it.

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 S! Amazing value, sharp as heck, and leaves budget for a good flash.

Weddings, huh? Important to be reliable! Unfortunately, I had issues with my Sigma. Consider a Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8. It's pricey, but less likely to fail mid-ceremony!

Lots of hype around Sigma lately. I've had issues with their Z mount lenses; not as good as expected. Consider Tamron; market data shows better long-term reliability.
