I finally pulled the trigger on a new Nikon Z6 II! It’s my first mirrorless body after years with a DSLR, and I'm a bit overwhelmed by the new ecosystem. I know I need the FTZ II adapter for my old glass, but what else is truly crucial? I’m debating between CFexpress Type B cards and fast SD cards—is the speed difference noticeable for everyday shooting? Also, should I prioritize extra EN-EL15c batteries or a vertical grip right away? I want to make sure I’m geared up properly before my first big shoot. What are the absolute must-have accessories you'd recommend for a new Z6 II owner?

Yo, congrats! Honestly, grab ProGrade Digital 128GB CFexpress Type B Cobalt for 1700MB/s burst clearing... its *amazing* compared to SD. Plus, get 2 Nikon EN-EL15c batteries. Skip the heavy grip, you know?

Dude, congrats on the Z6 II! honestly, unless youre doing heavy sports bursts, a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II is actually plenty for daily stuff. But for speed, the Lexar Professional CFexpress Type B Gold Series 128GB is killer value. Definitely skip the heavy grip and maybe grab the SmallRig EN-EL15c USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery instead of standard spares—super handy for charging on the go without a cradle. Mirrorless eats juice way faster than a DSLR! gl

yo, congrats on the Z6 II!! honestly, i've been using one for a year and it's literally amazing, especially the eye-autofocus. for the cards, i think the speed difference is actually super noticeable when you're reviewing images or dumping files to your pc... it just feels way more responsive. if you're looking for the best bang for your buck, i'd suggest the Angelbird AV PRO CFexpress Type B SE 512GB because the value for that capacity is insane. you get the speed without the massive price tag, you know? also, maybe skip the vertical grip for now. its bulky and makes the camera feel like a dslr again, which kinda defeats the purpose of going mirrorless lol. just grab a few SmallRig EN-EL15c USB-C Rechargeable Camera Battery spares instead. they're great cuz u can charge them with a phone cable via usb-c, so you dont even need to buy a dedicated charger!! plus, definitely get a ULBTER Z6 II Screen Protector 3 Pack. it's cheap insurance. anyway, good luck with the big shoot!! ✌️

Just catching up on this thread. In my experience, especially coming from a DSLR, the one thing you really cant compromise on is reliability. I have tried many brands over the years and i always end up back with Sony for media. CFexpress is definitely the way to go because they are physically more robust than SD cards. I suggest the Sony TOUGH 256GB CFexpress Type B because it is basically indestructible. When you compare it to something like the Delkin Devices 128GB POWER CFexpress Type B, the Delkin is fast too, but the Sony build quality just gives me more peace of mind during a big shoot. As for the battery vs grip debate, i would skip the grip entirely. It adds a ton of weight and ruins the ergonomics of the mirrorless setup. Just grab two more Nikon EN-EL15c Rechargeable Li-ion Battery packs and call it a day. I dont trust third-party batteries for professional work because I have seen them swell or throw errors after firmware updates. Nikon batteries are expensive but they wont fail you when it counts. Also, definitely get a Nikon MC-DC2 Remote Release Cord if you do any tripod work... its cheap and saves you from camera shake.
