I've been shooting with my Nikon D750 for a while now using just the built-in flash, but I'm finally ready to level up my lighting game! The pop-up flash is just too harsh for indoor events and portraits, so I really need something that offers solid i-TTL support and a rotating head for bouncing light. I’ve been eyeing the Nikon SB-700, but I’m also curious if third-party brands like Godox or Yongnuo are reliable enough for a hobbyist on a budget. My budget is around $250. Which external flash would you recommend as a first upgrade that best balances performance and build quality for a Nikon setup?
Yo! Honestly, for ur D750, I recommend the Godox TT685II-N Flash for Nikon!! I've used Godox gear for years and it's literally AMAZING for the price—usually around $130. It has full i-TTL and a rotating head, basically saving u like $100+ compared to the Nikon brand. The build is actually pretty solid too. Is that cheap enough for ur first upgrade?? Good luck!!
Curious about one thing: are u mostly shooting on-camera, or do u wanna try wireless lighting later? It really changes the math for Godox TT685II-N Flash for Nikon vs Nikon SB-700 AF Speedlight
+1 to what was said earlier. Honestly, Godox is a lifesaver!! I actually spent way too much on a used Nikon SB-600 AF Speedlight thinking brand name meant better, but unfortunately the recycling time was sooo slow... it reallyyy disappointed me at an event. The Godox TT685II-N Flash for Nikon is way faster and basically $130, so it’s totally a steal compared to the SB-700. gl with ur choice!!
If youre looking for reliability on your D750, you might want to be careful with those cheaper third-party brands... they can be kinda risky if you depend on them.
