I've been wanting to document my motorcycle adventures and share them with friends and family. I'm looking for a high-quality, durable camera that can withstand the vibrations and elements while mounted on my motorcycle.

I'd like the camera to have the following features:

  • Good image stabilization to reduce blurriness from vibrations
  • Wide-angle lens to capture the scenery
  • Decent low-light performance for early morning or evening rides
  • WiFi connectivity to easily transfer footage to my phone
  • Weatherproof/resistant body to protect from rain, dust, bugs, etc.
  • Loop recording in case I forget to clear the memory card
  • Easy to operate with gloves on

I'm considering action cameras like the GoPro Hero series or those from Insta360 and DJI. I'm open to helmet cams, body cams, or cameras I can mount on the bike itself.

What cameras are you using to record your rides? Any particular makes/models you recommend that have worked well for you? I'd like to keep the budget under $500 if possible.

Looking forward to your suggestions and hearing about your motorcycle videography setups!

I think DJI Osmo Action 4 is one of the best choices. Or you can also waiting for upcoming Action 5 with 1 inch sensor.

If you are looking for a professional camera, get the Nikon Z9.

Another great option for motorcycle videos is the Insta360 One RS action camera. What sets this camera apart is it has interchangeable lens modules, so you can switch between a standard 4K lens, a 360 degree lens, and a 1-inch sensor lens for the best quality. The 360 lens is awesome for motorcycle videos because it records everything around you and you can choose the angle afterwards. The Insta360 app makes it easy to edit and share your rides right from your phone. It's a very versatile camera setup for capturing crazy stunt videos or just sharing your motorcycle adventures.

Re: "Get the upcoming DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro." - thats definitely the smartest move if you want the latest sensor tech, tho the Action 4 is still a total beast. Looking at what everyone has said so far, it basically boils down to:

  • The DJI/GoPro crowd for traditional high quality and reliability
  • Insta360 fans for the crazy reframing flexibility
  • Some wild suggestions for professional gear that would probably just vibrate to pieces on a handlebar mount In my experience, everyone sees color and stabilization differently. Tbh you should just go to YouTube and search for "motorcycle camera blind test 2024" or check out the r/motovlogging wiki on Reddit. There are tons of side-by-side videos where you can see the actual wind noise and vibration handling yourself. I saw a killer comparison video a few days ago that basically settles the debate, just search for it and itll be the first result. If you start picking out a bunch of different mounts and filters, a handy cart sharer is a lifesaver for keeping your gear list organized before you pull the trigger.

> Looking at what everyone has said so far, it basically boils down to: The DJI/GoPro crowd for traditional high quality and reliability I totally agree with DoodleWhiz on the main players, but if youre actually trying to save some cash and want something that wont catch the wind like a brick, check out the Drift Ghost XL Pro. It handles the vibes pretty well and the battery life blows the big brands out of the water. Plus, the rotating lens is a lifesaver for weird mounting angles on the bike frame or a helmet side. Another decent budget pick is the Akaso Brave 8. It covers most of your checklist for way less than 300 bucks. Just a heads up tho, make sure whatever you buy is compatible with standard mounting accessories. Some budget brands have weird shells that make using high-quality vibration dampeners a total pain. If youre mounting directly to the bars, you definitely want a mount with some rubber padding or youll just get jello footage regardless of how good the internal stabilization is. Honestly, spending less on the cam lets you spend more on a solid mount, which is basically half the battle for motorcycle clips anyway.
