I'm getting more serious about landscape photography and looking to upgrade from my kit lens. Currently shooting with a Canon EOS R6 Mark II and mostly using the 24-105mm that came with it, but I'm not getting the sharpness and wide perspective I want for dramatic mountain vistas and expansive seascapes.
My budget is around $2000. Any recommendations from experienced landscape shooters would be greatly appreciated!
RF 15-35mm f/2.8L user here - absolutely love this lens! The 15mm end gives you that dramatic wide perspective that really makes landscapes pop. Built like a tank too. Only downside is the weight when you're hiking all day, but the results are worth it. Pair it with a good polarizing filter and you're set.
If you want the absolute best sharpness for those mountain vistas, you really need to look at the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM. I have spent a ton of time with this lens and honestly, the 14mm focal length is a game changer for getting those dramatic foregrounds compared to a standard 15mm or 16mm. Since most landscape work is done on a tripod at f/8 or f/11, you really dont need to spend the extra cash or carry the weight of an f/2.8 lens. From a technical standpoint, the edge-to-edge clarity on this glass is amazing. It also takes 77mm filters which is much more convenient than the massive setups some ultra-wides require. It fits your budget perfectly and leaves you some room for a high-quality tripod or some filters. Definitely a fantastic piece of kit that will totally outshine your current 24-105 for wide shots!
