Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my glass and considering Sigma Art lenses for my Canon R6 Mark II. I primarily shoot portraits and some landscape work. I've been eyeing the 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4, but I'm open to other focal lengths. How's the autofocus performance with the MC-21 adapter? Any issues with image quality or compatibility? Would love to hear your experiences and recommendations. Budget is flexible, but want the best bang for buck. Thanks!
The Sigma Art lenses, like the 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4, offer excellent image quality for portraits and landscapes, providing superb sharpness and pleasing bokeh. Regarding the MC-21 adapter on your Canon R6 Mark II, autofocus performance is generally good for still photography in AF-S mode, often comparable to native EF lenses on a Canon DSLR. However, AF-C (continuous autofocus) and video AF may be limited or not fully supported. Compatibility is good for Sigma EF-mount lenses, with in-camera corrections also supported. Just be aware of potential limitations for fast-moving subjects with AF-C.
Sigma art lenses are on sale at B&H Photo Video. https://bhpho.to/4oJ3qX3
Bookmarked, thanks!
Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
Hey there!
I've been using the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art with the Canon EF-RF adapter on my R6 for a while now, and honestly, I'm pretty happy with it. Autofocus is snappy enough for my needs (mostly portraits of my kids!), and the image quality is fantastic. I think the 35mm is a good all-rounder for both portraits and landscapes. You can find used EF versions pretty cheap, which makes it a great value IMO. No real complaints so far!
Hey! While the 35mm and 50mm are popular, have you considered the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 Art? It's a zoom, so more versatile than a prime. I've heard mixed reports about adapting Sigma EF lenses for RF. Some say autofocus is fine, others (like me, unfortunately!) had issues with consistent accuracy, especially in challenging light. Native RF lenses are definitely better optimized for the R6's AF system. If you're okay with the price, the 24-70 might be a better bet for overall performance and adaptability for both portraits and landscapes, IMO!
Hey! So, I totally get where you're coming from with the Sigma Art lens quest. I was in the same boat last year, trying to decide which one to get for my R6 without breaking the bank, ya know?
Honestly, while the 35mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.4 are popular choices, have you really thought about the cost *including* the adapter? The EF-RF adapter itself is an extra expense, and it might be worth checking used prices on native RF lenses instead, since the adapted lenses might not be as smooth with autofocus.
For portraits and landscapes, and even occasional events, a used Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM might actually be a decent option. You can often find them for around the same price or even cheaper than a new Sigma Art *plus* the adapter. It's not quite as fast as the f/1.4s, but the versatility is HUGE. Plus, it's a native RF lens, so autofocus will be spot-on. Just something to think about! It really depends on your needs and budget, though.
Hope this helps!
Hey! While those Sigma Art lenses are tempting, have you thought about the adapter's long-term safety? I've read some forum posts (do your own research!) about potential wear and tear on the camera mount over time due to the added weight and different materials. Just a heads-up!
Hey! While everyone's focused on Sigma, have you actually looked at Tamron's offerings for RF mount? Honestly, I think they often get overlooked! Tamron's been killing it lately with their image quality and value.
For example, their 35-150mm f/2-2.8 is a *beast* of a lens and could totally replace both a 35mm and a 50mm prime, plus give you a ton of versatility for events. It's not a Sigma Art, true, but it's sharp, focuses fast (on my R6, at least!), and the build is solid. I haven't had any compatibility issues at all. Seriously, look into it! It's worth comparing before you pull the trigger on a Sigma. Just my two cents! Let me know what you think!
