Just unboxed my R6 Mark II and I’m ready to gear up! I’m specifically looking for high-speed SD card recommendations for 4K video and a more comfortable neck strap. Should I invest in the vertical battery grip or just extra LP-E6NH batteries? What are the absolute essentials you’d recommend for a new R6II owner?

> Should I invest in the vertical battery grip or just extra LP-E6NH batteries? sooo i’ve been shooting with Canon for over a decade and honestly, the market research on storage is pretty clear now. basically, for 4K video on the R6II, u need reliable V90 cards to handle the bitrates. i compared the Sony TOUGH-G series SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB vs the ProGrade Digital SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB. the Sony is literally indestructible but it’s so expensive. the ProGrade is better value, tho i’ve unfortunately had one fail on me last year which was super annoying and not as good as expected... on the power front, the Canon BG-R10 Battery Grip makes the camera feel like a tank, but it’s honestly too bulky for most. i’d just carry three Canon LP-E6NH Lithium-Ion Battery packs instead. for the strap, i know everyone mentions Peak Design, but check out the BlackRapid Sport Breathe Camera Strap. it actually saves ur neck by putting the weight on ur shoulder. gl!

honestly, stick with V60 or V90 cards from SanDisk to avoid data corruption. i’d skip the grip and just carry spare batteries instead... its safer for ur wrists over time tbh. gl!

So I went through this last year when I first started out. Honestly, I spent way too much on gear that I ended up hating... especially the battery grip. I thought it would look cool, but it made the camera so bulky and my wrists were actually hurting after a couple hours. Plus, it was sooo expensive. I ended up just getting a few spare batteries from Canon instead, which was much better for my budget. For storage, I had some major issues with cheap cards failing, which was literally a nightmare. Now I just get anything from Sony or Lexar and call it a day. Same with the strap—I went through a few generic ones that were super scratchy before finally trying Peak Design. Just go with them, seriously. Their stuff is way more comfortable and wont break the bank if you shop around. gl!
