Just saw this thread and wanted to chime in since i have been shooting events for years. Regarding what #1 said about "Dealing with overheating right before a wedding sounds like a total nightmare," i totally feel that. You need something reliable that wont break the bank. Honestly, i have been so happy with my third-party gear lately because it performs just as well as the high-end stuff for a fraction of the cost. No complaints here after switching over. If you are on a budget but need pro performance, here are a few things that work well:

  • Godox V860III-C TTL Speedlite: This is my top pick for weddings. The lithium-ion battery is a game changer compared to standard AAs. It recycles in about 1.5 seconds and it basically never overheats during normal use. You can usually get two of these for the price of one name-brand flash.
  • Godox V1-C Round Head Flash: If you can stretch the budget slightly, this round head gives a much softer light falloff. I have had no complaints using this as my primary on-camera unit for reception dancing. It uses the same battery system as the V860 series which is super convenient for keeping spares.
  • Yongnuo YN600EX-RT II for Canon: This is a solid budget choice if you already use the Canon wireless trigger system. Its very affordable and quite powerful tho it uses AA batteries so you gotta carry plenty of spares for a long day. Tbh, focus on the Godox stuff with the V-series batteries. The heat management is way better because the battery doesnt work as hard to recycle the flash capacitor. Good luck with the wedding next week!

Dealing with overheating right before a wedding sounds like a total nightmare. I've been there and it honestly makes you want to quit lol. For my Canon gear, I eventually stopped messing around with cheap units and went for stuff that actually holds up under pressure because I hate feeling like my equipment might fail. Here are two I've used that stay cool:

  • Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT is the safest bet because it has better heat management built-in, but it is pricey.
  • Godox V860III-C TTL Li-ion Flash for Canon is what I use now as a backup. It uses a big battery pack instead of AAs so it stays cooler longer, tho the build quality feels slightly cheaper. If you want total reliability for Saturday, the Canon is probably the way to go. Its definitely worth the extra cash so you can focus on the photos instead of worrying about your gear. Good luck with the shoot!

^ This. Also, im dealing with the exact same thermal cutoff limits.

  • high-end units failing
  • missed ceremony shots Been hunting for months and honestly still havent found a fix yet.
