Which external flash works best with Canon mirrorless cameras?

I recently switched to an EOS R6 and I’m confused about flash compatibility. I’ve heard mixed things about using older Speedlites on the new multi-function shoe. Should I stick with Canon’s EL series for reliable TTL, or is Godox a better value for high-speed sync? What’s your go-to setup for event photography on mirrorless?

Jumping in here... honestly, for pro event work, you gotta prioritize thermal management and pin safety. Native EL units are technically superior because the digital interface prevents overheating. TBH, I’ve seen cheaper clones literally fry shoe contacts. * Profoto A10 AirTTL-C Studio Light for Canon - unmatched reliability
* Westcott FJ80 II Speedlight - better build than Godox Dont risk your bodys electronics with budget gear, right?

Seconding the recommendation above! This^ also wanted to add that if you use older gear on that R6, you basically gotta get the Canon AD-E1 Multi-Function Shoe Adapter. Tbh, without it, the weather sealing is compromised. If you want a solid alternative to the V1, I've been super happy with the Godox V860III-C TTL Flash for Canon. It’s basically the same tech but with a built-in modeling light. Good luck!

For your situation, I’ve used Godox V1-C Flash for Canon for several years and it works quite well. It's a decent option for high-speed sync compared to the more expensive EL-series. Honestly, your older Canon Speedlite 600EX II-RT should still work on the R6 shoe... so maybe try that first? It basically depends on your needs. TL;DR: Godox is the best value for event work right now i think. Peace 👍

So basically the consensus is:
• Shoe pins changed
• New pins can fry!
• Native vs Godox V1-C Flash for Canon. Honestly Godox had issues... maybe try Godox V1Pro-C Flash for Canon? gl!
