Ive been shooting with my Z7ii for years and usually have my gear sorted but I am finally planning a dream trip to Alaska in August so I really need some faster glass. Im looking at the 180-600mm or maybe the 400mm f4.5 if the price is right.
My budget is strictly 2k but the prices on Amazon are jumping all over the place lately which is super weird. I heard rumors that the Prime Day 2026 deals might skip the high end S-line stuff this year because of stock issues. Does anyone know if Nikon usually does decent discounts on the telephotos during the July sale or am I wasting my time waiting?

Honestly you should totally go for it! I love my Nikon NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR for wildlife and its a total beast in the field. Amazon deals can be hit or miss for S-line glass like the Nikon NIKKOR Z 400mm f/4.5 VR S, but usually they drop a few hundred bucks. Quick tip: check Nikons official refurbished store during Prime week too, sometimes they beat Amazon!
