I’ve been flying a DJI Mini series (under 250g) and I’m trying to get smoother, more “cinematic” footage without everything looking overexposed in bright daylight. I shoot mostly 4K at 30fps, and I’m aiming for the usual 1/60 shutter, but on sunny days I can’t get there without cranking settings in a way that looks weird. I’ve seen a bunch of ND kits (ND8/16/32/64, some with CPL) and I’m not sure what’s actually worth it for the Mini cameras, especially with color shifts or fit issues. What ND filter set/brand has worked best for your DJI Mini, and which strengths do you use most often?
I went through this last year w/ my Mini… i feel u. I tried 3 kits and yeah, mixed results:
- PolarPro ND Filters - DJI Mini 3 Pro (Cinema Series): best colors imo, solid fit, but $$$ and I still saw a tiny warm shift on ND64.
- Tiffen ND Filter Set for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND8/16/32/64): more neutral, but heavier vibes + a little softness on ND64.
- PGYTECH ND-PL Filter Set for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND8/16/32/64): helped glare on water, but the CPL part made exposure kinda fiddly when yawing.
Lesson learned: I used ND16/32 like 80% of the time, ND64 only in harsh noon sun.
Story time: i did the same 4K/30 → 1/60 chase on my Mini and sunny days were brutal lol. I ended up with PGYTECH ND Filter Set for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND8/16/32/64) cuz it was cheaper than the “cinema” kits and fit was decent. ND16 lived on it most days, ND32 for noon sun, ND64 only at the beach/snow. I skipped CPL combos… got weird sky banding if i wasnt careful. What Mini model you on?

For your situation, I’ve had the best luck with Freewell ND Filters All Day Kit for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND4/8/16/32/64/1000), solid fit + minimal color shift. Budget pick: Neewer ND Filter Set for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND8/16/32/64), decent but can go a tiny warm. I mostly use ND16/32; ND64 for harsh noon sun. CPL combos are OK, but easy to overdo and get weird sky banding… honestly
In my experience, for Minis the “best” ND set is the one that *fits perfectly* and doesn’t mess with the gimbal… cuz a slightly heavy/loose filter can trigger gimbal overload or micro-jitters, especially in wind.
- I’d look at Skyreat ND Filters Set for DJI Mini 3 Pro (ND8/ND16/ND32/ND64) — pretty solid fit, low-ish color shift, and the weights are usually gimbal-safe.
- Strengths I actually use: ND16 for bright but not nuclear sun, ND32 for true midday, ND64 only when it’s blasting + reflective stuff (water/sand).
I skip ND+CPL on Minis unless you’re careful… CPL angle changes mid-flight and can make the sky look weird. cheers
Good to know!
Just saw this thread. I'm probably being way too cautious, but I've been hesitating on the whole ND filter thing. ^ This. Also, a friend of mine actually had his gimbal start twitching after using one of those snap-on sets for a week. It might've been a fluke, but it really put me off. I'm not sure if it's worth the risk to the hardware just for a motion blur effect. I've been looking at this from more of a DIY and safety angle instead of just buying kits:
