Best sun hood for DJI RC 2?

Hey everyone — I’m looking for a good sun hood/shade for the DJI RC 2. I’ve been flying my Mini 4 Pro in bright midday sun and the screen gets hard to see even at max brightness, especially when I’m trying to frame shots or check focus. I’m hoping to find something that actually fits the RC 2 well (doesn’t press buttons or block the sticks), folds down easily for travel, and doesn’t feel super flimsy in a bit of wind. If you’ve tried a few, which sun hood works best with the DJI RC 2 and is it worth going branded vs a generic one?

+1 to reply #1 — those universal hoods literally press stuff. I had issues until I went semi‑rigid like PGYTECH Sun Shade for DJI RC 2; it locks in, doesn’t hit the sticks, and cuts side glare way better.

- **Watch out:** cheap “universal” hoods can press the RC 2 shoulder buttons/sticks and pop off in wind—been there, super annoying.
- Midday glare kills contrast, so a snug, RC-2-shaped hood matters more than “brand vs generic”; I’d pick a semi-rigid foldable one (my DJI/PGYTech-style fit better than random generics), imo.

This^ totally agree w/ everyone dunking on the “universal” ones… been there, they either mash buttons or fly off lol. Over the years I’ve noticed the market’s basically split: branded-ish accessories tend to use stiffer panels + better seams/Velcro, while generics are a total lottery batch-to-batch. My current setup is a semi‑rigid foldy hood and the big win is side glare control without touching the sticks. Also dark/matte interior matters more than I expected.

Late to the party but same… midday sun + Mini 4 Pro + RC 2 screen is like trying to edit a photo on a mirror lol.

So I went through 3 “solutions”:

Option A: the $10-ish universal folding hood. It *kinda* worked, but honestly it was a headache. The fit was sloppy, it would shift when I bumped the sticks, and in wind it literally wanted to sail off. Also the side flaps would brush the shoulder buttons sometimes, which made me nervous (I’m paranoid about accidental inputs).

Option B: a semi-rigid, RC2-shaped hood (I ended up with PGYTECH Sun Shade for DJI RC 2). Not saying you need that exact one, but the “made for RC 2” shape was the real win. It sat deeper around the screen, cut side glare way better, and didnt press the controls. Plus it folded flat enough to toss in my bag without getting mangled.

Option C: no hood, just max brightness + turn my body into a human shade. Free, but… not great when you’re trying to frame precisely.

Value-wise, I guess branded vs generic matters less than “RC 2-specific fit” and semi-rigid panels. The cheap universal ones were false economy for me, basically.

Sooo I feel u on the RC 2 in midday sun… I thought “700 nits is fine” and then I took my Mini 4 Pro out at like 1pm and yep, mirror mode activated lol.

Option A for me was a cheap universal folding hood (no brand). It *worked* in the sense that it made the screen darker, but unfortunately it was sketchy. It would sorta squeeze the controller, and i swear it was pressing a shoulder button once (noticed cuz my gimbal settings got weird mid-flight). Also in a light breeze it would flex and pop loose at the corners. Not dangerous every time, but safety-wise it distracted me when I should’ve been watching the aircraft.

Option B was a controller-specific semi-rigid one: PGYTECH Sun Shade for DJI RC 2. Night and day difference. It actually “keys” to the RC 2 shape, doesn’t mess with the sticks, and it blocks side glare better so I’m not cranking brightness + squinting. It folds flatter too, feels less flimsy.

Option C I tried once was a DIY-ish phone hood/velcro thing… idk, it was janky and I bailed.

Branded vs generic? For the RC 2, the fit matters more than the logo. The snug ones are worth it just for fewer oops moments. good luck!

Exactly what I was thinking
