Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and picked up a new Fujifilm X-T5, and I am absolutely in love with the vintage dials and that 40MP sensor. This is my first venture into the Fuji ecosystem, and while the camera is incredible out of the box, I want to make sure I’m fully equipped to get the most out of it from day one.

Since it's a bit of an investment, I’m looking for advice on the must-have accessories to improve the experience. I’ve noticed the body is a bit more compact than my old DSLR, so I’m considering the Fujifilm MHG-XT5 metal hand grip to help with ergonomics when using larger lenses. Also, with those high-resolution files, I’m a bit confused about memory cards—should I stick with standard SDs or is it worth investing in high-speed UHS-II V60 or V90 cards for better performance?

I’m also seeing a lot of people using soft shutter release buttons and thumb grips, but I’m not sure if those are actually functional or just for the aesthetic. I mainly plan on doing street photography and some light travel, so I want to keep things relatively streamlined. For those of you who have been using the X-T5 for a while, what are the absolute essential accessories you’d recommend for protection and better handling?

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year and found that budget gear rocks! I dont regret skipping the official grip for the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4060 at $39. It’s amazing because it adds a built-in Arca-Swiss dovetail for ur tripod for way less cash! I also found the JJC Soft Shutter Release Button was essential—it's only $7 and improves the tactile shutter response sooo much. gl!

Its basically $40 and just as sturdy. Unfortunately, I've had issues with scratches, so definitely get a PCTC Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Fujifilm X-T5. For 40MP files, the Kingston Canvas React Plus 128GB SDXC UHS-II is a technical beast that offers V90 performance without the massive Sony price tag.

yo, congrats on the X-T5!! ngl that 40MP sensor is a total beast but it highkey changes how you gotta think about your kit. ive been shooting fuji for years and i totally get the "dslr shock" when you first hold these smaller bodies... In my experience, here's what you actually need: - **Memory Cards:** With those massive file sizes, dont even look at standard SD cards. You definitely need UHS-II. Just go with SanDisk or Lexar—you cant go wrong as long as they're V60 or higher. If you go too cheap, the buffer will literally take forever to clear and youll miss shots.
- **The Grip:** I've tried many setups and the Fujifilm metal grips are worth it for the ergonomics alone. It adds just enough height for your pinky. Plus, they usually have Arca-Swiss rails built into the bottom which is sooo handy. - **Thumb Grips & Buttons:** People think they're just for the "vintage vibe," but honestly? A thumb grip is essential for one-handed street shooting. It gives you so much more leverage. Soft shutters are kinda personal preference, but they help with a smoother release... just be careful cuz they can snag on camera bags.
- **Extra Juice:** That high-res sensor and EVF eat power. Just grab some spare batteries from a brand like SmallRig or Watson. Basically, keep it lean for street but dont skimp on the card speed!! What lenses are you planning to pair it with?? gl!

sooo congrats on the gear! I've had a different experience regarding the handling tho. Respectfully, I'd consider another option before dropping a ton of cash on the official grip... especially for street stuff where you wanna stay light. Basically, adding bulk can kinda ruin the vibe of a compact body. * Instead of the Fuji one, maybe check out the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for FUJIFILM X-T5 4136. It's like a fraction of the price and fits Arca-Swiss tripods too.
* Be careful with those soft shutter buttons!! they're lowkey risky cuz if it snags on your bag, it can actually break the shutter mechanism. Honestly id skip it.
* For the cards (since they were mentioned), unless ur shooting heavy video, you dont *really* need pricey V90s. I suggest the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II—it's super reliable and way better value imo. Anyway, just my two cents as a fellow newbie... gl with the new beast! peace
