Ive shot Fuji for years but the X-T5 ergonomics are surprisingly cramped for my hands. My logic was it would be a perfect travel body for Scotland next month, but it feels off with the 16-55mm.
I obviously need a grip and maybe a thumb rest? What are the actual must-have accessories for this thing?
^ This. Also, having shot Fuji since the X-T1 days, I have found that the 16-55mm is a bit of a bully on these smaller bodies. If the SmallRig doesn't feel substantial enough for your hands, the official Fujifilm MHG-XT5 Metal Hand Grip is actually more ergonomic in my experience. It adds a bit more depth to the front and makes that lens weight feel way more manageable. Since you're heading to Scotland, these are my non-negotiables for a trip like that:
Honestly, that 16-55mm f2.8 is way too front-heavy for the naked X-T5 body. I had the same issue and adding a proper grip made it feel like a totally different camera. I am very satisfied with the SmallRig L-Shape Grip for Fujifilm X-T5 4060 because it adds just enough height for my pinky to rest and has a built-in Arca-Swiss plate which works well for my travel tripod. Heres what I recommend to fix the ergonomics and prep for Scotland:
Quick reply since I just saw this. I would suggest being cautious with the 16-55mm since it is around 655g. Thats a lot of front-heavy torque for a slim body. I think I heard a baseplate helps stabilize the center of gravity, though Im not 100% sure it fixes the dial reach. Make sure to watch your wrist strain. TL;DR: Balance that heavy glass with a baseplate.
