Just picked up an L-mount mirrorless body and I’m trying to build a smart “carry-everywhere” kit without buying a bunch of gimmicks. I shoot mostly street + short trips, often in low light, and I’m switching between a small prime and a zoom. What accessories are genuinely must-have for L-mount bodies—extra batteries/charger, adapter, cage/plate, mic, filters—what’s worth it and why?
For your situation, idk, the “must-haves” are boring but they save trips…
- SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I 128GB V30 U3 (or 2x64GB): cheap insurance vs one big card.
- Godox TT350O TTL Speedlite: tiny, actually useful for low-light street/indoors when ISO gets gross.
- B+W 010 UV-Haze MRC Nano 67mm + cheap step-up rings: one filter size for both lenses.
- K&F Concept 3-in-1 USB-C SD Card Reader (SD/TF): phone backup on trips.
Unfortunately cages/NDs weren’t as good as expected for “carry everywhere” for me. cheers
Story time: I went through this last year on an L-mount body doing night street + weekend trips, swapping a small prime/zoom nonstop. The stuff that *actually* stuck in my bag wasnt the fancy bits… it was boring reliability.
I ended up living on a tiny L-bracket, specifically SmallRig L-Bracket for Panasonic Lumix S5 II 4148 (like $50-ish). Lets you go vertical fast and gives a bit more grip without a full cage. For low light, a simple strap upgrade helped more than I expected—OP/TECH USA Super Classic Strap Black is cheap and comfy.
Also, cleaning. Seriously. Rocket Air Blaster Large + Zeiss Lens Wipes 200 Count saved my shots more than filters ever did. No complaints… just works.
But yeah, i get it—gimmicks are everywhere. gl!
Ok so for your situation, here’s my no-gimmick L-mount “carry everywhere” list (learned the hard way lol):
- Extra battery + USB-C PD top-up: grab one more OEM battery (sadly pricey, like $70–$120). I had issues with cheap third-party cells swelling / weird % jumps.
- Small PD power bank: Anker PowerCore 10000 PD 10000mAh (~$30–$40) + a short USB-C cable. Keeps you shooting in low light when EVF drains.
- Fast SD card (don’t cheap out): SanDisk Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I 128GB V30 U3 (~$20–$30).
- Filters: one good variable ND for street/video: Hoya Variable Density II 67mm (~$80). Step-up rings to share across prime/zoom.
- Quick plate: Peak Design Standard Plate v3 (~$20). Cages were not as good as expected for “carry everywhere” imo.
cheers, gl!
Ok so not to disagree, but IMO skip cages/plates at first… my “must-have” turned out to be safety stuff: spare OEM battery + a real charger, strap with a solid anchor, and a small weather cover—saved my camera, ngl.
Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!
