Im honestly getting so frustrated with my current setup and Im about ready to throw my camera bag out a window. Ive been using the kit 20-60mm on my S5II for a few months now and while its light it just doesnt have the reach I need for anything and the constant lens swapping is driving me crazy. I also have the 50mm 1.8 but every time I have that on I wish I had a zoom and when I have the zoom on I wish it was faster or longer. Im heading to Kyoto and Tokyo in about three weeks and I really dont want to be fumbling with caps and dust on the sensor while Im trying to enjoy the trip with my kids. I need one lens that can basically live on the body for 90% of the time.
Ive looked at a few options:
The Art lens seems heavy for a full day of walking and I dont know if the 24-105 is fast enough for night shots in the city. My budget is around $1300 but I could stretch it if the quality is actually worth it. I just want something sharp that doesnt feel like a compromise every time I press the shutter. I just want to focus on the photos instead of my gear for once. What is the absolute best all-around zoom for the S5II that wont make me regret switching from my old Sony setup?
Catching up... sadly agree about that f4 zoom being disappointing. Disagree on the other suggestion tho, it feels way too flimsy for travel. Try looking for used gear instead.
Quick reply while I have a sec... unfortunately Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f4 Macro OIS isnt as good as expected for night shots. Id just get the Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary.
