I just grabbed a Leica SL2 and I am really excited to start using my M-mount lenses on it. I have been looking at the official Leica M-Adapter L, but the price is pretty steep for what it is. I am curious if third-party options like Novoflex or even the Voigtlander versions are worth considering for a professional L-mount setup.
I am specifically looking for something with a solid build that won't have any light leaks or mount wobble. Also, does any third-party adapter actually support 6-bit coding for lens metadata? I would love to hear your experiences with different brands before I pull the trigger. Which adapter do you think provides the best performance for the money?
Check out the Novoflex M-Mount to L-Mount Adapter. I once had a cheap one jam. Now I only trust Novoflex. Note: third-party brands dont support 6-bit coding like the Leica M-Adapter L does. gl
> third-party brands dont support 6-bit coding This^ also check the Voigtlander VM-L Mount Adapter. Its definately super solid, but third-parties dont have the proprietary optical sensor for 6-bit reading like the Leica M-Adapter L. Basically a patent issue.
i feel u on the price thing... i actually started with a cheap brand and it was a total nightmare with light leaks... just a mess lol. if you want that pro build without the leica tax, honestly the novoflex is REALLY solid. just be careful cuz third-party ones wont read your 6-bit codes. lesson learned: pay for official if you need data. TL;DR: novoflex for build, but only leica reads codes.
Like someone mentioned, that 6-bit coding stuff is basically a patent trap and it is honestly so frustrating to deal with when you just want your gear to work. I have spent way too much time worrying about this and it just feels like we are being punished for wanting to use M glass on a modern body.
