I’m putting together a lightweight Micro Four Thirds travel kit (one body + 12-40mm f/2.8) and want to avoid overpacking. I’ll be walking all day and shooting street scenes + some night shots, mostly in unpredictable weather. What are your must-have accessories (strap/bag, filters, spare batteries/charger, mini tripod, etc.) that actually make a difference?
For your situation, i’d keep it tight but reliable (been there, rain + street at night… unfortunately I’ve lost shots to dead batteries).
- Strap: Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap (way comfier all-day)
- Weather: OP/TECH USA Rainsleeve (2-Pack) + a couple microfiber cloths
- Power: 2 extra OEM batteries + Anker PowerCore 10000 Portable Charger (saved me when wall outlets were sketchy)
- Filter: B+W 62mm XS-Pro Clear MRC-Nano 007 Filter (protection, minimal IQ hit)
- Mini tripod: JOBY GorillaPod 3K Kit for night stuff
gl!
Ok so for a 12-40 f/2.8 travel kit, the “actually useful” accessories for me are comfort + weather + power.
- Strap: OP/TECH USA Pro Loop Strap vs BlackRapid Sport Breathe Camera Sling — OP/TECH is cheap + comfy on long walks; BlackRapid costs more but takes weight off your neck (huge if you’re out all day).
- Bag: Lowepro Adventura SH 120 III vs Tenba BYOB 9 Camera Insert — Lowepro is a simple grab-n-go; Tenba lets you use any daypack (saves money, looks less “camera”).
- Weather: Think Tank Photo Hydrophobia Eyepiece EP-N + a couple microfiber cloths — cheap and saves your viewfinder in rain.
Also: 1 extra OEM battery + a tiny dual USB charger is plenty, imo. gl!
For your situation, I’d keep it to 2 things that actually save shots: a tiny travel tripod + a real rain cover. I’ve tried many, and Sirui T-005X Aluminum Tripod with C-10S Ball Head is stupid light but steady enough for night street, plus Think Tank Photo Emergency Rain Cover - Small lives in the bag and has bailed me out in sudden downpours… like, more than once lol. cheers
Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.
