I’ve recently fully committed to the Olympus OM-D system for my hiking trips, and I’m looking to kit out my E-M1 Mark III for serious landscape work. Since the Micro Four Thirds system is so portable, I want to keep my gear light but effective. I'm specifically curious about filter systems that don't cause vignetting on wide lenses like the 7-14mm Pro, and whether I should stick to a traditional cable release or use the OI.Share app for long exposures. Also, any recommendations for a sturdy, lightweight tripod that complements the OM-D's compact size? What are the absolute must-have accessories you guys use to get the best out of the MFT sensor for landscapes?

Yo, in my experience, kitting out the E-M1 Mark III for landscapes has been a bit of a headache lately. I had huge issues with the NiSi 100mm Filter Holder for Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO because it's just so bulky and the vignetting was highkey annoying, so I basically switched to the Kase Wolverine K100-Slim Filter Holder Kit which is better but still kinda pricey. Also, dont trust the OI.Share app for long exposures cuz it's super buggy; I've missed shots when it disconnected, so I'd definitely grab the Olympus RM-CB2 Remote Release Cable for reliability. For a tripod, the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber is popular but unfortunately it's too wobbly in mountain winds, so maybe check out the Gitzo GT1545T Series 1 Traveler Carbon Fiber Tripod instead if you want real stability. gl!

Before I give advice, quick question—are you doing mostly day hikes or multi-day backpacking treks? Cuz that REaly changes how much weight you wanna trade for stability. Honestly, if ur trying to stay budget-conscious, you gotta lean into the E-M1 III's built-in tech first. Sooo, for that 7-14mm, physical filters are a total money pit and a huge pain to carry. Since you have the Mark III, have you messed with the Live ND feature yet?? It's literally a game changer for landscapes. It mimics long exposures up to ND32 without needing a single piece of glass. It's SO much safer for your lens too since you dont have a bulky holder catching the wind and potentially scratching things. For a tripod that wont break the bank but stays sturdy, I'd look at the Vanguard VEO 3T 235ABP Aluminum Travel Tripod. It's a bit heavier than carbon but way cheaper and very reliable. For the shutter, OI.Share is okay, but it drains ur phone and camera battery fast. I always carry a cheap JJC Shutter Release Cable S2 for Olympus as a backup. It's lowkey essential for reliability in the field. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! After years of hiking with my OM-D, I've found big filter holders are just a headache for that 7-14mm. I actually switched to the STC Optics Internal Clip Filter for Olympus M43—basically no vignetting and way lighter. For a tripod, the Sirui T-025SK Carbon Fiber Tripod is solid and tiny. Also, dont use the app; the Olympus RM-WR1 Wireless Remote Commander is way more reliable tbh. GL!
