Honestly so fed up with my Lumix setup right now. I spent all this money on the body and lenses but my footage looks like absolute trash because its so shaky and the audio is terrible. I feel like im just hitting a wall and its making me want to sell everything and quit. Im shooting some local punk shows here in Seattle next month so i need to fix this fast.

  • budget is max 300 bucks total
  • needs to fit in a standard backpack
  • focusing on stability and maybe sound

What are the absolute bare essentials I actually need to make this usable? Is a cage worth it or should i just get a gimbal?...

I have been very satisfied with a cage setup. Gimbals just don't feel reliable in a crowded pit. I recommend the SmallRig Camera Cage for Lumix GH5 2049 for better handling. For audio, the Rode VideoMic GO II Shotgun Microphone works well for loud shows. This setup is solid, fits your backpack, and stays under budget. No complaints.

Saw your post and honestly, I was in the exact same spot when I started shooting basement shows! The handheld shake used to drive me crazy until I figured out a better grip system. If you want to keep things compact but stable, you really need a handle setup. I love using a top handle for those low-angle shots near the stage, it makes the footage look so much more intentional and gritty.

  • SmallRig Top Handle 1638 for a solid grip during high-energy sets.
  • Tascam DR-05X Stereo Handheld Digital Audio Recorder to capture the raw energy of the room without clipping.
  • Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap so you wont lose your gear in a mosh pit. It is amazing how much a dedicated audio recorder helps. You can just mount it somewhere safe or hold it, and the sound quality is fantastic compared to internal preamps. Getting that clean audio while having a firm physical grip on the body makes a world of difference for punk gigs. Definitely try this before giving up!
