I’m looking to streamline my street setup and want to stick to primes. I love how compact MFT is, but I’m torn between something wide like a 15mm or a classic 25mm. I really need something fast for low-light evening walks. Which primes offer the best balance of size and sharpness for candid shots?

For your situation, I’d grab the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. it’s unfortunately a bit heavy for street, but the low-light sharpness and price blow those overpriced tiny primes away. gl!

I've definitely been there... I remember my first night shoot with a slow lens and it was just a blurry mess lol. For your situation, I would suggest the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for Micro Four Thirds.

Basically, that f/1.4 aperture is a total game changer. Most 'compact' primes are f/1.8 or f/2, and while they're tiny, that extra light from f/1.4 is what saves your shots when it gets dark. It lets you keep your shutter speed high enough to catch people moving without the ISO getting out of control. Technically, f/1.4 gives you about 2/3 of a stop more light than f/1.8, which is huge for MFT sensors.

The lesson I learned is that tiny size is great, but speed is king for street. This Sigma is a bit chunkier, but the sharpness is literally unbeatable. gl!

In my experience, choosing between 15mm and 25mm realy comes down to how close you wanna get to people... I've been shooting MFT for like 8 years now, and honestly, the Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH. is probably the best balance of size and sharpness you can find. It’s wide enough to capture the vibe of a street but fast enough that low light isn't a total disaster.

If you're torn, maybe consider that the 25mm (50mm equivalent) can feel a bit tight for candid street shots unless you're across the road. I've used the Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. a lot cuz it's cheap and light, but I always find myself backing up into traffic lol. For evening walks, you definately want that extra field of view the 15mm gives you.

One thing tho—be careful with the Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.7 II ASPH.. People love it cuz it's tiny, but the autofocus is kinda sluggish for fast-moving subjects. If you want something snappy, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 17mm f/1.8 is a solid middle ground. It’s got that cool manual focus clutch which is seriously handy for zone focusing at night. Just make sure to check if ur camera body has IBIS, cuz that'll help a ton with those low-light shots too. Anyway, for a streamlined setup, I'd go 15mm first and maybe add a 25mm later if you feel too far away. gl with the choice!!!
