ive been trying to learn about cameras but honestly it’s so confusing with all the different brands and the numbers on the side. i just got a panasonic g85 for my trip to seattle next month but it only came with a tiny lens. i have about 500 dollars saved up for something better but i dont want to carry a bag full of stuff so i just want one lens that can zoom in and out for everything like flowers and people. i keep seeing things about 12-35 or 12-60 and i dont know what the difference is or which one is better for a beginner who doesn't want to change lenses constantly... any ideas?

> i keep seeing things about 12-35 or 12-60 and i dont know what the difference is I've been using the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 12-60mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. and honestly it's very reliable for a beginner. The 12-35 is more expensive and has less zoom range. I'm satisfied with how it handles flowers and portraits without me having to change anything. It just works well and stays well under your 500 dollar budget. Very safe choice.

Building on the earlier suggestion, check out the Panasonic Lumix G Vario 14-140mm f/3.5-5.6 II ASPH. POWER O.I.S. for more reach.

  • 14-140mm: better for far away stuff
  • 12-60mm: wider for architecture

^ This. Also, look for a used Panasonic Leica 12-60mm f/2.8-4.0 DG Vario-Elmarit ASPH Power OIS online.

  • superior low light
  • pro-level sharpness Honestly, it's worth the extra cash.
