I recently upgraded to a Nikon Z6 and I am planning a big photography trip next month. Since the Z6 has its own quirks like the single XQD card slot and specific battery needs, I want to make sure I am fully prepared without overpacking my bag.

I am currently using the 24-70mm f/4 S lens, but I am curious about what else is essential for a smooth workflow on the road. Do you guys have any recommendations for reliable card readers, extra EN-EL15c batteries, or maybe a specific lightweight tripod that balances well with this body? What are the top three accessories you never leave home without when traveling with your Z6?

For your situation, you definitely gotta be cautious with that single slot!! honestly i would suggest these budget-friendly options to stay safe:

sooo... i just found this thread and wanted to jump in. honestly, i had some issues with my Z6 setup on my last trip and it was actually pretty frustrating. i mean, i have years of experience but these new mirrorless quirks still get me... is it just me or are the accessories confusing?? i tried to save money on a card reader and it was literally the worst mistake. i compared the Sony MRW-G1 CFexpress Type B/XQD Memory Card Reader with a SanDisk Extreme PRO CFexpress Card Reader.

  • Sony: works with both XQD and CFexpress which is huge for compatibility.
  • SanDisk: cheaper, but it only does CFexpress... which kinda sucked when i still had old XQD cards left over. for tripods, i checked out the Manfrotto Pixi Evo 2-Section Mini Tripod vs the Ulanzi MT-11 Flexible Tripod.
  • Manfrotto: really stable for the size but doesnt wrap around anything.
  • Ulanzi: super cheap and flexible, but honestly not as good as expected for heavier lenses like ur 24-70. anyway, definitely dont skimp on the reader... losing photos is the worst feeling ever. gl!!

Ok so careful with that single slot!! One card failure basically ruins your whole trip. I guess Id recommend:

  • high-speed reader - extra batteries - carbon tripod. Works great for me.
