so my 30th is literally next weekend and i just moved into a new apartment in chicago so things are totally chaotic right now. i have like 35 items sitting in my amazon cart that i spent the last three nights picking out. its mostly stuff for the kitchen and some weird gardening tools for my balcony since i finally have a little outdoor space. my friends and family are constantly texting me for gift ideas and i really want to just give them the list of exactly what i already picked out because i was super picky about the brands and colors. i have things in there like:

  • the specific 12-cup glass carafe
  • that vintage blue toaster
  • the ergonomic garden trowel set
  • those bamboo cooling sheets in sage green

i did some quick searching online and saw people mentioning amazon wish lists and wedding registries but that feels so formal for just a birthday and i dont want to have to manually move every single item from my cart into a new list one by one. it took me forever to find those specific items and i just dont have the time to do it all over again with the party coming up so fast. i also saw some mention of a share cart feature but i think that might only be for amazon fresh or something? or maybe its just for business accounts? im getting conflicting info online. some sites say you can just hit a share button but i literally cannot find it anywhere on the desktop site or the app. i tried just copying the url from my browser and sending it to my sister but she said it just opened her own empty cart so that definitely didnt work lol.

im feeling super pressured because i told everyone i would send the link tonight and now im stuck. i really dont want to spend another two hours rebuilding a registry from scratch if there is a button i am just missing. some people on a random blog said you can use a browser extension to do it but i really dont want to give some random third party app access to my amazon login if i can avoid it. i just want to send the stuff that is already sitting there ready to go. is there a way to just share my actual live shopping cart with other people so they can see what i picked and maybe just buy stuff off of it? or is a list the only way to do this?

Re: "Wait, are you on Chrome or Safari? You..."

  • I would actually suggest being super cautious with those types of suggestions. Honestly, it drives me crazy that we even have to talk about extensions or third-party tools for something this basic. It is such a massive oversight that a trillion-dollar company forces users into these ridiculous manual workarounds. It is like they want us to suffer through the registry process just to harvest more marketing data or something... totally a scam. I spent some time looking at the specs for how their cart sessions work and there is literally no reason for it to be this broken. It is so frustrating that instead of a simple button, people have to resort to stuff like amazon cart share just to get basic functionality. Be careful with your login info tho, because some of these tools are sketchy as hell. The whole situation is just a mess and I really feel for you with the move and everything. Tech companies really dont care about our time anymore.

OMG happy early 30th!! Chicago is such a vibe, hope you absolutely love the new apartment! Honestly, the share cart struggle is so real. It drives me crazy that Amazon doesnt just have a giant share button for this stuff! I totally tried the URL copy-paste thing once too and felt like a complete dummy when my friend saw her own grocery list instead of my gift ideas lol. TL;DR: You cant share the live cart directly, but you can move everything to a list in like 30 seconds flat without doing it one by one! Basically, if you go to your cart on a computer, there is usually a checkbox to select items. Check them all, then click Move to list and boom... everything transfers instantly. Then you just set the list to Public and you are good to go! If you want an even easier way to handle the links, I found that using amazon cart share is a fantastic way to bridge that gap and get your picks seen by your family without the headache. Dont stress about rebuilding it from scratch, the bulk move is a total lifesaver! Love those sage green sheets btw, those are gonna look amazing in a new place!
