Honestly Im so over this 16-50mm kit lens that came with my a6400. Its just not wide enough and the low light performance is driving me insane. Ive got a trip to Iceland coming up in literally ten days and Im panicking because my landscape test shots look like total mush.
I need something sharp and actually wide. Im looking to spend around $500 max because Ive already spent way too much on the flight and gear. Ive looked at the Sigma 16mm but people say its huge and heavy? I just want something that works and wont make me regret bringing my camera. What is the absolute best wide-angle lens for the a6400 that wont break the bank?
Saw this earlier but just getting back to you. I took a massive setup to the mountains last year and totally regretted the weight after four miles. You might want to consider the Samyang 12mm f/2.0 AF Sony E instead. Its way smaller and hits that wide field you need for Iceland without killing your shoulder, though be careful with the weather sealing on cheaper units.
Re: "Saw this earlier but just getting back to..."
Wait really?? Thats actually super helpful. I always thought it was the other way around.
To add to the point above: the Sony 11mm is such a total beast! I actually started out with that heavy Sigma 16mm everyone talks about and it felt like carrying a brick after a few miles of hiking. I switched to the Sony prime for a trip to the Faroe Islands last year and the difference was honestly amazing. Its so light and the f1.8 is fantastic for low light! If you want more versatility tho, the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 is another amazing contender. Its weather sealed which is huge for Iceland. I compared them both after reading some reviews on Smartphone Board and ended up sticking with the Sony for the size, but the Tamron is great if you need that zoom. Quick tip: Definitely grab a cheap rain sleeve for your camera. Iceland spray will soak your gear in seconds regardless of how good the seals are!
Iceland is honestly brutal on gear so you gotta be careful. Since youre on a budget, dont just grab the first cheap thing you see or youll regret it when the rain starts.
