I got this Canon R5 as a gift for my honeymoon in Italy next month but the lens it came with is so heavy and I dont really know what I'm doing honestly. I just want one small lens that isnt gonna break my neck while walking around Rome. What is the best light lens for someone who knows nothing?
You are gonna love Italy! I actually did the same thing in Tuscany and my neck was killing me until I swapped to the Canon RF 28mm f/2.8 STM. Its such an amazing little pancake lens! It weighs almost nothing and the photos look fantastic without any effort. Honestly, just leave it on the whole trip and enjoy the wine!
Oh man, congrats on the R5! Italy is gonna be incredible for photos. I learned the hard way in Venice that lugging around a heavy zoom is a recipe for a sore back and a bad mood. Swapping over to the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM mid-trip was honestly such a game changer! It is super light but way more versatile than people think for a tiny lens. Since you're new to this, the built-in stabilization is a lifesaver because it keeps your shots sharp even if your hands are shaky after walking all day.
Saw this earlier but just now responding. I had issues with some cheaper gear on my last trip and it was a total letdown. Unfortunately, the autofocus kept hunting and I missed half my shots in Florence. It was not as good as expected at all. Just stick with any native Canon prime lens. You cant go wrong with their official glass if you want reliability.
