Finally swapped my D850 for the Z7 II and I'm hyped, but my adapted F-mount glass is flaring like crazy! Need a native landscape lens for my Iceland trip next month.

  • Budget: $1300 max
  • Use: ultra wide
  • Must take standard filters

Is that 14-30mm actually sharp enough for the high res sensor or should I look elsewhere?

TLDR: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is the ideal choice. In my experience, it's sharp enough for 45MP and fits 82mm filters, saving you $1000 over the f/2.8 version.

Regarding what #1 said about "TLDR: The Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S..."

  • I totally agree. Honestly tho, I had a rough time with the Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 Z for landscapes. It was so disappointing because the edge performance just didnt handle that Z7 II sensor. I ended up with mushy corners... total bummer. TLDR: The 14-30mm is the only native ultra-wide under budget that handles 82mm filters perfectly.

Like someone mentioned, that Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S is definitely the safest bet. Over the years, I've seen too many third-party lenses fail in the field, and in my experience, the weather sealing on native S-line glass is just way more reliable. Since you're hitting Iceland next month, having those 82mm screw-on filters instead of a massive kit makes a huge difference in the wind... its plenty sharp for those 45MP files.
