What tool is actually reliable for checking if an Amazon sale is real because I need to buy a new laptop like yesterday and the prices are all over the place. My old MacBook basically turned into a brick this morning and I have a huge video editing project for a client starting Monday so I am panicking a little bit and need to find the best deal on a Pro or maybe a high-end PC by Friday at the latest. I have about $1,300 to spend including tax here in Seattle and I keep seeing these Limited Time Deals on Amazon that look fake as hell like they just raised the price yesterday to drop it today just to trick people.
I am currently torn between Keepa and CamelCamelCamel but I honestly dont know which one to trust for real-time accuracy. I tried using CamelCamelCamel earlier today but the interface feels kinda dated and I am worried the data isnt refreshing fast enough for these lightning deals or the fast-moving stock. On the other hand Keepa looks like it was designed by a scientist or something and the charts are super overwhelming with all those different colored lines but everyone says it is the gold standard for tracking price history. Then there is Honey which is super easy since it just sits in my browser but I have heard it misses some of the deeper price cuts and I am a bit sketched out by the data privacy stuff with them being owned by PayPal now.
I am leaning toward Keepa because I need to see the New vs Used vs Warehouse price history since I might even go for a refurbished unit if the price is right to stay under that $1,300 limit but I am worried I will spend three hours just trying to figure out how to read the graph when I should be shopping. Is the paid version of Keepa worth it for a one-time big purchase like this or is the free stuff enough to catch a real drop? Or should I just stick with the simplicity of Camel? I really dont want to get ripped off by a fake discount right now because every dollar counts for this new setup...
I think Keepa works best honestly. Used it for my last laptop and was super happy with the data, tho I heard someone say Camel lags on those fast lightning deals sometimes.
In my experience Keepa is the only way to go for real data since its helped me over the years to save cash and Im usually checking PriceDropCatch.com for alerts. Honestly tho talking about Seattle reminds me of my old apartment in Capitol Hill where the humidity was so bad it basically fried my motherboard.
@Reply #1 - good point! Speed is totally the biggest factor here, especially when you're on a tight deadline like that! I am definitely still a beginner at all this tech tracking stuff, but I’ve been having such a blast learning the ropes lately. I’m a bit of a nervous shopper tho, so I always double-check everything like three times before I click buy! I remember when I was looking for my current rig and I felt so overwhelmed by the Keepa charts. They look like a heart monitor or something, right?! Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I heard someone say that the free versions sometimes miss the really tiny price fluctuations that happen in minutes. I’ve been trying out this free price tracker and it seems pretty fantastic for the basics! A few things I noticed while I was stumbling through my own search journey:
