honestly so fed up with my current cards because they keep locking up my a7R IV for like thirty seconds after every burst and its actually driving me insane. I was out at the local park yesterday trying to get some shots of these hawks and I missed the best dive because the buffer was still clearing... it just feels like such a waste of a sixty megapixel sensor if I cant even take more than three photos at a time without waiting forever. I have about 200 bucks to spend before my sisters wedding next month and I need something that actually keeps up.

What are you guys actually using that doesnt cost a fortune but still handles those massive raw files?

  • Sony Tough series
  • ProGrade Digital
  • Maybe Kingston Canvas

Really need to know what wont fail me during the ceremony...

> I have about 200 bucks to spend before my sisters wedding next month and I need something that actually keeps up. Look, those 61MP files are absolute monsters! If you want to stop that annoying buffer lag, you really need to look at the write speeds specifically, not just the read speeds advertised on the box. The a7R IV has dual UHS-II slots, so you definitely want V90 rated cards to maximize that throughput. I have been using the Lexar Professional 2000x SDXC UHS-II Gold Series 128GB and honestly, it is fantastic for high-res bursts! The write speeds hit up to 260MB/s which is exactly what you need when that buffer starts filling up. It makes a massive difference. Another amazing option if you want premium build quality is the Sony TOUGH-G series SDXC UHS-II V90 128GB. I love it because it is ribless and doesn't have that tiny write-protect switch that always breaks off at the worst times. It is incredibly durable for wedding work where you are swapping cards fast in a high-pressure environment. A few things to keep in mind for the wedding:

  • Get V90 over V60 to avoid that 30-second lockup.
  • Buy two 128GB cards for redundancy instead of one big one.
  • Format the cards in-camera before the ceremony starts. Basically, the V90 rating ensures a minimum sustained write speed of 90MB/s. V60 cards often choke on those uncompressed raws after the first few shots. You wont regret the extra speed when you are trying to capture the first kiss without the camera freezing up on you! It is a total lifesaver for professional work...

You absolutely need the Kingston! Its fantastic and way cheaper than Sony while being incredibly reliable! Ive used them for years for work and they never fail.

Saw this earlier but just now responding. Are you shooting uncompressed raw or the compressed files? That sensor is a monster and it changes the buffer math completely tho... Reminds me of my cousins wedding where the photographers card door jammed. He had to use a butter knife to pry it open right during the cake cutting. Total mess.

  • Space vs speed tradeoffs
  • Dual slot write speeds
