I finally pulled the trigger on a Sony a7IV, and I'm super excited to start shooting! Since it's such a versatile hybrid camera, I’m a bit overwhelmed by the sheer amount of gear available. I’ve already got a decent lens, but I'm wondering what else is essential to really maximize its potential. Specifically, should I invest in a pricey CFexpress Type A card for the faster buffer, or are V60 SD cards enough for most 4K video? Also, since the screen flips out now, do you recommend a specific screen protector or perhaps a half-cage for better grip? I’d love to hear what items you guys actually use daily. What are your top 3 must-have accessories for the a7IV?

Yo, congrats on the a7IV! I've been shooting Sony for years and honestly, the gear trap is real. For cards, I unfortunately found out the hard way that even decent V60 cards like the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II can struggle with the highest bitrates. If ur shooting S&Q or heavy burst, you lowkey need the Sony 160GB CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Card. It's pretty expensive, but missing shots cuz of buffer lag is basically the worst feeling ever, and it's not as good as I expected for the price... Anyway, here are my top 3:
1. SmallRig Half Cage for Sony Alpha 7 IV - it makes the grip way better tbh.
2. Sony PCK-LG2 Screen Protector - gotta protect that flip-out screen!
3. An extra Sony NP-FZ100 Rechargeable Battery Pack cuz one is never enough. So yeah, hope that helps. What lenses are u starting with?? gl!

In my experience, v60 is fine i think. prioritize safety:
- Peak Design Slide Lite Camera Strap SLL-BK-3
- SmallRig 3667 Full Cage
- Giottos Rocket Air Blaster
protects against drops, right?

Curious: what're you shooting? Tbh SmallRig Half Cage for Sony Alpha 7 IV 3639 (light) vs SmallRig Full Cage for Sony Alpha 7 IV 3667 (secure) basically depends on HDMI needs. TL;DR: Need info.

sooo congrats on the a7IV! i'm still kinda new to this gear rabbit hole but i've been looking into the costs a lot lately. honestly, you might find this useful - check out a site like Alpha Shooters for their massive speed charts. like reply #1 said, your card choice really matters. basically its CFexpress vs V90 vs V60:
- CFexpress: insanely fast but sooo expensive.
- V90: the solid middle ground.
- V60: the budget pick you mentioned. tbh i actually started with a super cheap card and it was a mistake!! it literally locked up my buffer during a shoot. i mean, its probably fine for basic 4k but be careful with slow-mo. i ended up getting a better mid-range one later and its been pretty much perfect. i think V90 is probably the best value choice so you dont waste money like i did... definitely my #1 must-have. anyway gl!
