im finally going on my dream trip to tokyo next month and im so hyped but honestly im so fed up with my current setup. every time i go out shooting with my a7iv i end up with a massive headache because the stock strap is just garbage it literally digs into my neck after like an hour and i feel like a pack mule. i really want to enjoy the city and the shrines without being in pain.
plus the battery life is fine i guess but i always freak out and carry like five spares loose in my bag which is a total mess. i keep losing the little plastic caps too and it drives me crazy. ive got about 300 bucks left in my travel budget for gear extras and i really want to get organized so i dont spend half my vacation digging through a backpack or worrying about my camera falling off my shoulder. i already have:
i need stuff that actually works for a mirrorless setup that isnt gonna weigh me down while im walking 20k steps a day. what are the actual essential travel accessories you guys use for sony mirrorless shooters? like what are the must haves that wont make me regret bringing my camera...
saw this a few hours back and honestly its a tough spot. unfortunately a lot of the popular gear is way overpriced for what you actually get. before i dive into suggestions though, what kind of backpack are you actually bringing? that really changes how you should organize your gear for those 20k step days. if you want to fix that tripod situation without blowing your whole budget, i have a few thoughts:
Late to the party but unfortunately most people overlook technical reliability for flashy gear. I've had issues with generic chargers failing mid-trip and it ruins the experience. For an a7iv, you need components that match the body's internal specs or you're just asking for a technical failure in the middle of Shinjuku. Since you're worried about the battery mess and safety, you really need to look at power management and data integrity. I'd suggest these:
Regarding what #1 said about the Slide Lite, its a good strap but in my experience, a clip is even better for 20k steps. I use the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip V3 to keep the a7iv on my backpack strap instead of my neck. Also, check out the SmallRig NP-FZ100 Camera Battery Charger Case. It stores two batteries and charges them via USB-C, so you wont lose any more caps.
Solid advice 👍
