I recently upgraded to the Canon EOS R8, and I'm looking to enhance my low-light photography with a new flash. I'm wondering what you all consider the best flash options for this camera. My main interests are portrait and event photography, so I need something versatile.
Godox V1, and if you are looking for off camera flash, get the new AD200 Pro II.
For something simple and affordable, I'd recommend the Canon EL-10 - it's the smallest and most budget-friendly Canon option. The 430EX III-RT is also a great mid-range choice with wireless capabilities if you think you might want off-camera flash later. I picked up a refurbished 430EX III-RT and it's been fantastic for indoor bounce flash work.
For a simple, capable, and fully compatible option, consider the Canon EL-100 flash. If you need more features in a compact size, explore the Godox TT350 (AA battery) or V350 (Lithium battery). These offer faster recycling times, powered zoom heads, radio control, and optical slave options. The TT350 is also more affordable. However, compatibility should be verified, and your Magmod may not fit these smaller heads.
For a standard-sized head compatible with Magmod accessories, the Canon 430EX III-RT is a solid choice. Each option has its strengths, so consider your specific needs when making a decision.
