Ive been building my own rigs since the early Phenom II days so I am usually pretty good at spotting market trends but Newegg is really messing with me lately. I am trying to put together a solid 1440p build for my home office out here in Oregon—bless no sales tax—and I have got about a firm $1800 budget to work with for the whole tower. I am currently eyeing an RTX 4070 Super and maybe that Lexar NM790 4TB drive since I do a lot of 4K video editing on the side and need the fast scratch space.
The thing is I have been watching my cart for about two weeks now and the prices are just... weird. Like I will check on a Tuesday morning and the GPU is $599 then by Wednesday night it is up to $635 but then Friday morning it drops again but not quite back to the original price. It is driving me crazy because I am trying to hit a mid-August deadline before my next big freelance project starts and every 20 or 30 bucks counts when I am trying to squeeze in a better Tier-A PSU or a slightly faster kit of DDR5.
I remember people saying years ago that Tuesday was the magic day for tech deals or maybe it was those Shell Shocker sales on Thursdays but it feels like their algorithm is way more aggressive and reactive now. Is there an actual logic to when they refresh their inventory pricing or am I just seeing ghosts in the data?
My specific constraints for this build:
- Total budget must stay under $1800
- Need all parts ordered by next Friday to meet my assembly window
- Hoping for a 850W Gold rated unit from a reliable brand like Seasonic or Corsair
- Trying to avoid multiple shipping fees by sticking to one or two vendors
I have tried using some of those price tracker extensions but they dont seem to catch the hidden promo codes that pop up for like six hours and then just vanish into thin air. Does anyone who shops there regularly know if they usually do a big dump of coupons on a specific day like Monday night or if it is just completely random based on stock levels and what the competition is doing? I am really trying to time this right so I dont pull the trigger and then see a 10 percent sitewide code the very next morning...

I've tried many different timings for my current setup and found their algorithm reacts way too fast to stock and competitors now. Over the years, I learned to just set alerts and pull the trigger. Those flash coupons are totally random... dont drive yourself crazy chasing a ghost. Just grab it when the math works for your budget.
