Ive been building rigs since the DDR3 era and usually trust the Shell Shocker deals, but lately Im seeing prices on a 2TB NVMe drive Ive been eyeing for my video editing build that look exactly like they did last week. Are these Newegg limited time offers actually discounted or is it just a fake timer?

Ive been following this closely and I totally get the skepticism! Building on a budget is amazing when you get it right. Spent months researching Gen4 drives because I need absolute reliability for my workflow without overspending. To stay safe, I follow a strict process:

  • Check historical low prices
  • Verify vendor reputations I basically just let PriceDropCatch track everything for me now. Its fantastic for finding genuine discounts!

To add to the point above: those timers are totally fake half the time! Tbh I stopped trusting them years ago and started using price trackers instead. For your video editing build, you really gotta look at the Samsung 990 Pro vs the WD Black SN850X. The Samsung is amazing for reliability and sustained writes, which is a huge pro, but the con is that it usually costs way more. The WD is a fantastic alternative and often actually discounted, plus the performance is incredible, tho it can get kinda toasty. I also love the Crucial T500 if you want something mid-range... it is super efficient but sometimes lacks the cache for massive 8K projects. Honestly, just check the price history on a tracker site before you click buy. It is a total game changer and way safer than falling for a flashing red timer!

Ngl, Ive seen this happen a ton! Last month I was tracking a Gen4 NVMe with 7000MB/s reads for my home server and that timer reset three times without the price moving a cent!! It was super frustrating but the tech is still amazing. Love those speeds tho!! Quick tip: always run the part number through a price history tracker to see if its actually hit an all-time low.
